Important dates in Alpha Beta history
In 1929 Beta Mu Sigma, Butler's Band Fraternity, petitioned for membership in Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Serive Fraternity. On May 31, 1929 the Alpha Beta chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi was installed as the twenty-sixth capter in the nation. The chapter has had over 560 members, active and honorary.
- 1919 - The Butler University Band was founded
- 1925 - J.B. Vandaworker was hired as Butler's first professional director
- 1929 - Beta Mu Sigma, the local band fraternity at the time, Petitioned Kappa Kappa Psi for a national charter.
- 1929 May 31 - Alpha Beta chapter was installed.
- 1933-35 - J.B. Vandaworker was elected Grand President of Kappa Kappa Psi.
- 1935 - Alpha Beta hosted National Convention.
- 1930's - The Alpha Beta chapter disbanded due to the Depression, returning shortly thereafter to active membership.
- 1940's - Numbers dwindle again due to WWII.
- 1946 - The Epsilon chapter of Tau Beta Sigma was installed at Butler University.
- 1966 November 6 - Alpha Beta and Epsilon host the yearly band banquet as our first joint endeavor.
- 1969 December 12 - Alpha Beta and Epsilon fold due to financial troubles and apathy.
- 1969-77 - The Waytes Guild was formed in the absence of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma to provide service for the bands.
- 1977 April 2 - Alpha Beta and Epsilon reactivate at the NCD convention at Purdue University.
- 1981 April 12 - J.B. Vandaworker was awarded the Bohumil Makovsky Memorial Award posthumously.
- 1997 - HR Jung, Alpha Beta's President is elected VPCM of the NCD.
- 1998 - HR Jung, VP is elected NCD President.
- 1998 April - Alpha Beta and Epsilon hosted their first district convention ever. It was a great success.
- 1998 April - Alpha Beta inducts it's first ever female brother, Sara Beutter at district convention.
- 1998-99 - Alpha Beta Served as Advising Chapter to the Colony at Kentucky State, now the Iota Mu Chapter.
- 1999 May 31 - 70th Anniversary of Alpha Beta.
- 2000 - Alpha Beta was awarded the Governors Cup.
- 2000-2001 - Alpha Beta and Epsilon produced the NCD publication, The Kadenza.
- 2001 - Rod Whiteman, Brother of Alpha Beta, is elected NCD President.
- 2003 - Rod Whiteman is awarded the J.Lee Burke Student Leadership Award
- 2004 May 31 - 75th Anniversary of Alpha Beta

Due to the fact that we have had large gaps in our history, much of our history has been lost. We are a chapter working toward the future, making new traditions, and making what will hopefully be a proud history.
