Last of th 60's Women

Marianne Faithful

Often described as "the rock 'n roll chick of the 60's", Marianne Faithful burst onto the scene in the 60's singing the Rolling Stones tune, "As Tears Go By"...and on the arm of Mick Jagger for many years. Her voice, full of treble and vibrato, is unique and haunting. There is no one like her singing today. Her song, "Little Bird" is one of the most haunting songs I have ever heard. Her 60's style is impecable and her legand goes on with fans today.

Phyllis Nesmith

Phyllis Nesmith was pretty much a reluctant 60's icon. Monkee Mike was married, and although that didn’t suit a proper pop idol, the teen magazines of the day ran with it and decided they would promote Phyllis as a perfect wife and mother, someone that little girls could look up to. Often known as the “angry” Monkee or the one with the worst attitude, Mike wasn’t too happy, but is quoted to have said to Phyllis, “I didn’t know you were pretty until I saw these pictures.” What a guy. Poo.
The Nesmiths were married for most of the 60’s and 70’s, and had three children through the Monkee madness. She even stuck with Mike when he had an affair and another child with photographer Nurit Wilde, but they split up soon afterwards. Since their divorce, unlike other Monkee wives and girlfriends, Phyllis has never made any statements to the press regarding Mike and has stayed out of the public eye.
