Samantha Juste-Dolenz

I've been a Monkees fan as long as I can remember, and although I've never found Micky Dolenz attractive (I'm a Peter Tork girl all the way!), he did have a great sense of humor and is the author of one one my favorite rock autobiographies, "I'm A Believer, My Life of Monkees, Music and Madness". In that book, I learned of Micky's whirlwind romance with 60's English "Top of the Pop's" juke box girl, Samantha (Sammy) Juste. I immediately added her to my list of 60's women I admired.

In 1966 Sammy first met Monkee Micky Dolenz when he made a guest appearance on the show. Micky saw her first in the cafeteria before the show and said he just had to meet her. He set up a ploy to get her to meet him under the guise of some sort of American publicity promotion and after they met for the first time, they were never seen apart for weeks.

She gave up her stint on “Top of the Pops” and her modeling career in England to move to the states with Micky. Micky wrote one of the most famous Monkees songs, “Randy Scouse Git” about his whirlwind time in England and meeting Samantha.

Randy Scouse Git
She's a wonderful lady and she's mine all mine
And there doesn't seem a way that she won't come and loose my mind
It's too easy humming to songs to a girl in yellow dress
It's been a long time since the party and the room is in a mess
The Four Kings of EMI are sitting stately on the floor
There are birds out on the sidewalk and a vallet at the door
He reminds me of a penguin with few and plastered hair
There's talcum powder on the letter
And the birthday boy is there
Why don't you cut your hair?
Why don't you live up there?
Why don't you do what I do?
See what I feel when I care?
Now they've darkened all the windows and the seats are naugahyde
I've been waiting for an hour
I can't find a place to hide
The being known as wondergirl is speaking, I believe
It's not easy trying to tell her that I shortly have to leave...

They were married not long after and she gave birth to would-be actress Amy Dolenz (who played many minor characters in 80’s movies, starred on a soap opera and in the movie “She’s Out of Control”).

Micky and Sammy (who was extremely kind to fans) divorced in the late 70’s, sending Micky, who was already reeling from poor choices after leaving the Monkees, into a dark depression. Sammy is quoted as saying, "He was running around quite a bit, and I just didn’t want to become someone who was bitter." For Amy’s sake, and for their own, the two managed to remain friends throughout the years.

Sammy is now a successful writer of home how-to books in England and a breast cancer survivor who works for the cause to this day. On the relationship front, Sammy never remarried...Mick on the other hand...he's working on his 3rd marriage...his current to a perky blonde 30 year old named Donna...what a poo.

Currently, Sammy and Ami are working together making and selling original and antique jewelry. They even have some up on ebay, and it's pretty cool, so check it out....

(Ami's middle name is Bluebell...Micky attributes her middle name to the whole 60's hippie thing...heheh)
