Coltrain began in 1976 as a 3 piece band and performed in local clubs, at area fairs, and at local rodeos. Coltrain is an entertaining Country Western band that, like any respected band, had to go through a few changes before they got it right. Founded by drummer Dale Bennet, the current version of Coltrain originally performed as a four-piece band.
Over the years they developed great harmonies and a deep friendship among all the band members. Coltrain had been a back up band for Country Showdown contestants for almost a decade before entering and winning the Northwest Regional Country Showdown in 1996. They went on to the National finals and placed sixth in the nation at the competition in Orlando, Florida, and got to perform with Tanya Tucker, T. Graham Brown, Charlie McCoy, and Jimmy Dean.
The band has opened for such artists as Deborah Allen, Earle Thomas Connely, Diamond Rio, Joe Diffie, The Oak Ridge Boys, Blackhawk, Ricochet, Sawyer Brown, Daryle Singletary, Deana Carter, Collin Raye, Confederate Railroad, Martina McBride, Montgomery-Gentry, Gary Allan and Phil Vassar.
The band has spent many summers playing fairs all across Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Their debut CD "Walking to Wyoming", which features original material and two covers, came out in January of 2001 and received great reviews from their fans across the country even as far away as Upstate New York. Radio stations in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and Wyoming have played Coltrain's music by popular demand. One of the most exciting events of 2001 was their appearance at the COUNTRY THUNDER USA in Queen Creek, AZ. The band shared the stage with Andy Griggs, Trick Pony, Rascal Flatts, JoDee Messina, and Wynonna to name a few.
COLTRAIN is a very professional, exciting, and pleasing Country Western band that loves to perform. It doesn't matter if it's a one hour show or a five hour night at a club, Coltrain grabs audience's attention and doesn't let go until the very last note of the night...

Coltrain had several tracks in the finishing stages for their second CD which they had expected to have completed in summer 2006. In April 2006 Coltrain's long time lead guitarist Bob Buell passed away. This put a bit of a damper on things and in July 2006 Reiny Baer was added to Coltrain on keyboards and vocals. Many things affect a working band; personalities, family and circumstances, but Coltrain is still out there playing country music for it's fans in our region.
Kelly Seidel said "...many of us have dreams we have never dared to follow. It's difficult to stay on track and follow those dreams because something always seems to get in the way."
Coltrain is dedicated to their fans and their dreams and it shows.
