Known as the "sporty kid" Danny was born Daniel William Wood in Massachusetts.

Danny grew up in a strict household learning to be self-disiplined. At school he was known for his academic ability and adaptability as well as his self-discipline. Danny was put in an advanced teaching program and was offered three university scholarships including a four-year scholarship to Boston University.

Lucky for us, Danny wasn't just a bookworm. He was also a budding athlete and enjoyed music. He enjoyed running and was a member of an athletic club. At school Danny became a member of the Rock Against Racism break-dancing group. During his attendance at the William Monroe Trotter school he joined The Kool Aid Bunch, of which fellow New Kid, Donnie, was also a member.

In 1984, following recommendation from Donnie Wahlberg, Danny joined New Kids On The Block.

While in New Kids On The Block Danny got involved in writing and producing. He wrote and produced tracks for the New Kids "Hangin' Tough" album, "Step By Step" album and for their "Face The Music" album. Outside of New Kids On The Block he co-wrote and co-produced for Tommy Page, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch and Lyte Funky Ones (LFO). When fellow ex-New Kid Joey decided to pursue a solo music career Danny produced two of the tracks for his debut album.
