Name: Shuichi Shindou

Birthday: April 16

Age: 19

Blood Type: A

Height: 165cm

Weight: 51kg

Shuichi is the protagonist of Gravitation. He's the lead singer of an upcoming band entitled Bad Luck. Shuichi has the strangest personality. He's optimistic and extremely hyper. He's a fun loving boy that almost always has a smile on his face.

But there's more to Shuichi than meets the eye. Besides the fact that he practically ruins every serious scene with some sort of insanity, he's got a lot of depth. Shuichi cares about the people around him more than anything. Without his best friend, Hiro, and the one he loves, he feels that he can't survive.

Shuichi loves what he does. Ever since he was a little kid he wanted to become a singer just like his idol, Ryuichi of Nittle Grasper. Bit by bit his life is coming together. And then one night, Shuichi's life did a 180.

Shuichi met a man named Yuki that night. Yuki was cold and his comments hurt Shuichi, but left a lasting impression on him at the same time. Shuichi soon found himself attracted to Yuki and Shuichi himself couldn't explain it.

Now with his band on the way to the top, Shuichi has to face the reality that he is in fact in love with Yuki. What will this mean for his career? And can Shuichi take the ordeal he is about to go through? .

Name: Eiri Yuki (Eiri Uesugi)

Birthday: February 23

Age: 22

Blood Type: AB

Height: 186cm

Weight: 74kg

Yuki is literally Shuichi's exact opposite. While Shuichi is always acting goofy and smiling, Yuki has a cold personality and shows very little emotion at all. But like the rest of the cast, there's more to Yuki than meets the eye.

Yuki is a famous award winning novelist. Girls all over Japan are in love with him and find him gorgeous. But Shuichi is different from all of them. Shuichi is the only person is Yuki's life, besides Tohma and maybe his sister, who truly care about him. And Shuichi is the only one that has even come close to thawing Yuki's heart of ice.

Once, Yuki used to be just like Shuichi, but Yuki had an extremely hard childhood which continuously comes back to haunt him. And Yuki isn't sure how to react to Shuichi. Shuichi even invites himself to live with Yuki without asking him first. Yuki must sort out his feelings and confront his past, or else the waters of the future aren't calm at all...

Name: Hiroshi Nakano

Birthday: August 4

Age: 19

Blood Type: B

Height: 178cm

Weight: 62kg

Hiro has been Shuichi's best friend since they were little kids. Hiro can read Shuichi like a book and knows what's going on even before Shuichi does. Hiro is also the guitarist in Bad Luck and with Shuichi, has dreams to surpass Nittle Grasper. But like every other character in Gravitation, Hiro is a lot more than a pretty face.

Hiro has an extremely strong personality and is very determined. He attempts to keep a clear head and stand up for what he believes in. He is also always there for Shuichi. He's the greatest friend Shuichi could ever have asked for. He looks after Shuichi and encourages him to follow his heart and do the right thing. Whenever Shuichi is floating up in the clouds or is depressed about something, it's Hiro that brings him back to his senses. And when Hiro realizes that there is nothing more he can do, Hiro goes to Yuki - all to help his friend.

Hiro falls in love with Yuki's fiancée, Ayaka, and believes he doesn't have a chance. But slowly Hiro's luck is going to change. As a key member of Bad Luck, and Shuichi's best friend, Hiro plays an important role in this series.

Name: Tohma Seguchi

Birthday: November 20

Age: 32

Blood Type: B

Height: 175cm

Weight: 55kg

Tohma is a key character is Gravitation. Besides looking a little too much like Quatre from Gundam Wing, he is the president of NG records and runs the label that works with Bad Luck. Like Ryuichi, Tohma finds that there is something special about Shuichi. Tohma is also a keyboardist in the group Nittle Grasper and a talented musician. He is known world-wide for the musical work he does.

At first Tohma just seems to be a normal character, but he is connected to more of the story than one might originally expect. Tohma is married to Eiri's sister. On top of that, Tohma has known Eiri since he was young and knows all about his past.

Tohma secretly loves Eiri more than anything in the world. And, he'll do whatever it takes to make sure Eiri is happy.

Name: Ryuichi Sakuma

Birthday: April 1

Age: 31

Blood Type: B

Height: 165cm

Weight: 53kg

Ryuichi is my favorite character from Gravitation and definitely one of the most interesting. Ryuichi is the lead singer in the world famous band Nittle Grasper, and as such is Shuichi's idol. However, after seeing Shuichi up on stage, Ryuichi is reminded of himself and learns to enjoy Shuichi's company. As the story progresses, it becomes clear that Shuichi and Ryuichi are rivals, and that Shuichi is beginning to surpass Ryuichi. However, ironically enough, just as Shuichi is a fan of Ryuichi, Ryuichi is a fan of Shuichi and seems to like the boy.

Ryuichi is very interesting because he has split personalities. His main personality is carefree and very much like Shuichi's. He is very naive and innocent and seems to be the master of puns. He is also slightly off kilter. Ryuichi does the weirdest and most interesting things - from dressing up in a pink bunny outfit, to impersonating his own version of Batman. This side of Ryuichi can almost always be seen with a stuffed bunny rabbit at his side. This bunny's name is Kumagoro and is Ryu-chan's best friend. He talks to Kumagoro and takes him everywhere he goes.^^

Ryuichi's other "half" takes a lot of people off guard. Sometimes when Ryuichi is performing, he can slip into another state and go from a fun-loving kid, to a serious and determined person who has a strange mysterious charm about him. On the few occasions that this other half can be seen, the outcome never seems to be positive. But switching back and force between "halves" is what makes Ryu-chan who he is.

Ryu-chan may appear to be re-living his childhood, but he's full of advice and support and he'll do whatever he can to help out Shuichi when he needs it. With Ryuichi's bright smile and wonderful personality, he truly does shine.

Name: K

Birthday: September 19

Age: 29

Blood Type: A

Height: 175cm

Weight: 62kg

K is Ryuichi's former manager and now the manager of Bad Luck. This American is known for his love of weapons, and carries a gun, bazooka, or something like that with him at all times. His style can be summed up in a few short words: Do what I say, or else I will shoot you.

K is also known for his use of English. In every other line he'll speak a word or two of English just to spice things up.

K will do whatever he can to allow Bad Luck to reach the top. K comes up with all these crazy plans and follows through with them. Some of his schemes seem like overkill, but in the end, K always seems to be right and manages to create a happy ending.

Watch out for him though. If you fail to listen to him, you WILL be shot at.

Name: Sakano

Birthday: September 19

Age: 29

Blood Type: A

Height: 175cm

Weight: 62kg

Sakano-san is Bad Luck's manager. He looks up to Tohma and follows his word to the letter. Sakano is a hard worker, however he lacks a backbone and worries a little too much. He can almost always be seen panicking in the background somewhere.

Name: Tatsuha Uesugi

Birthday: December 21

Age: 16

Blood Type: AB

Height: 180cm

Weight: 67kg

Tatsuha is Yuki's younger brother. However, unlike his older brother and sister, Tatsuha shows a lot of emotion. It appears that he and Eiri used to be closer when they were children, but have since drifted apart.

Like Shuichi, Tatsuha is a huge Ryuichi fan. Tatsuha seems to be a little more obsessive than Shuichi though. When Tatsuha meets Shuichi for the first time, he sees the resemblance between Ryuichi and Shuichi right away and seems to like Shuichi.

Tatsuha may be a little on the weird side, but in the end, he does that right thing and helps Shuichi out.

Name: Suguru Hujisaki

Birthday: July 6

Age: 16

Blood Type: A

Height: 160cm

Suguru is the third and final member of Bad Luck and plays the keyboard. He was brought in under Tohma's request. Bad Luck was always Shuichi and Hiro, therefore when Shuichi found out about Suguru, he wasn't pleased. And after realizing how truly talented Suguru is, Shuichi begins to despise the boy. Slowly, Shuichi leans to accept Suguru into his group.

Suguru is a relative of Tohma, but since he has always been compared to Tohma, Suguru wishes to surpass him and Nittle Grasper. Out of all the members of Bad Luck, Suguru is the hardest working. He's also extremely dedicated. While everyone else is lounging around and dealing with strange issues, Suguru is always still working his hardest.

Because of all the hard work and effort he puts into his work, Suguru is often very annoyed with Shuichi, Hiro, and even K. He doesn't understand Shuichi's personality and for this reason, there's a little bit of chemistry

Name: Noriko Ukai

Birthday: August 5

Age: 28

Blood Type: O

Height: 160cm

Weight: 48kg

As one of the few female characters of the series, Noriko doesn't play a huge role. She's a keyboardist in the group Nittle Grasper.

She and Ryuichi seem to be good friends and she seems to like to cling onto Ryu-chan as well. Just as Hiro brings Shuichi back to his senses, Noriko has a similar role with Ryuichi. When Ryuichi starts acting like too much of a child, Noriko is always there to pick him up and bring him back to reality.

Noriko's role may be minor, but she's a powerful female figure nevertheless.

Track-1 Gravitation

Shuichi and his group, Bad Luck, are getting ready to perform in concert. Shuichi is still working on lyrics to their newest song. When walking through the park one night, the lyrics slip out of his hands and into the hands of a strange man with blond hair. He looks at the lyrics and tells Shuichi that they suck. This hurts Shuichi, but something about the strange man haunts Shuichi's mind. All he can do is think of him. And bit by bit, Shuichi is realizing that he's become obsessed with this stranger. Shuichi keeps running into him everywhere. But when this cold stranger turns out to be an novelist by the name of Eiri Yuki, Shuichi's life has offically does a 180. How does Shuichi really feel about Yuki? And is Yuki really that cold?

Track-2 Live in soul

Bad Luck's first concert is just around the corner. Yuki's sister crashes the rehearsal and asks Shuichi a favor. Shuichi accepts because he wishes to know more about Yuki. However, when Shuichi confronts Yuki, Yuki doesn't take things too well. Yuki can't understand how someone could genuinely care about him. Shuichi is saddened and runs off. But how will this affect Bad Luck's first concert?

Track-3 Stray heart

Tohma has decided that there is to be another member added to Bad Luck because something is lacking in their performance. Hiro understands what he's getting at, but Shuichi is clueless. Shuichi feels confident in himself, but is there such a thing as too much confidence? The new member turns out to be extremely talented and this hurts Shuichi's pride. When even Yuki tells him he's being foolish, it's up to Shuichi to figure out on his own. Can Shuichi pull himself together in time to save Bad Luck?

Track-4 Wave shock

Shuichi has invited himself to stay with Yuki and Yuki isn't complaining too much. Shuichi leaves in the morning and tells Yuki that he'll be back in time for dinner, but as luck would have it, Bad Luck ends up getting to appear on a quiz show. And what's the prize? A chance to sing on TV! Will Bad Luck win the contest and get the publicity? Or will Shuichi do something stupid and ruin it all? And will Shuichi be able to make it back to Yuki's by dinner time?

Track-5 Winding road

Shuichi and Hiro rescue a girl in the park from a bunch of guys out to get her. She is determined to find someone. They help her out and Hiro even stays with her. But soon it is discovered that she's actually looking for Yuki because she's his fiancée! To make matters worse, Bad Luck's first live solo concert is less than two days away. Can Shuichi figure out his feelings in time or is he destined to ruin the show? But will all this destroy Yuki and Shuichi's relationship or just make it stronger?

Track-6 Shady scheme

Yuki's sister tells Shuichi that he doesn't know anything about Yuki, but when Shuichi starts asking questions, Yuki becomes very cold towards Shuichi again. On top of all this, as Shuichi's popularity rises, and with Yuki already famous, plus Shuichi's little outburst during Bad Luck's concert, rumors start to spread regarding Shuichi and Yuki. Yuki decides to distance himself from his problems, and therefore dumps Shuichi. In the meantime, Tachi of ASK is up to no good. What is Tachi planning? And is this really the end of Yuki and Shuichi?

Track-7 Ground zero

Shuichi is willing to do anything to protect Yuki - he's even willing to quit Bad Luck. Yuki solves the ASK problem and Tachi notices something in Yuki's eyes. Yuki doesn't want to hurt Shuichi's future. Yuki understands that even if he tells Shuichi to leave him alone, Shuichi will come back again, so Yuki makes a decision. He decides to distance himself from Shuichi and get married. Will Shuichi make it in time? And can Shuichi handle what he's about to find out?

Track-8 Song and song

During one of Bad Luck's interviews, a member of ASK shows up to give Shuichi a message. Tachi is up to no good, but Tohma has other plans for him. Now with ASK out of the way, Nittle Grasper is reunited. Nittle Grasper are Shuichi's idols, but can Bad Luck survive being their rivals? In the meantime, Yuki's past is catching up to him and the wall he built around his heart begins to crumble. Can Shuichi help Yuki through all this? And can Shuichi bring himself to compete with his heroes?

Track-9 The deepest brain

Bad Luck's debut album is about to be released. Mr K asks Yuki a favor. It seems as if Mr K is willing to do anything in order to get a million sales, and now Shuichi is too. In the meantime, the press learns that Yuki and Shuichi are living together and camp outside their apartment. Yuki isn't home, but when he gets home he will find himself confronted by reporters. What will they do? And what will they answer when they ask if they are lovers?

Track-10 Heads or tails

Hiro's quit the group and no matter what Shuichi tries, he says that his decision is final. Shuichi refuses to go on without his friends. Afterall, they were the original members of Bad Luck. Without Hiro, what's left? Hiro admits his feelings for Ayaka-chan even though he feels that she'll never return them. Shuichi relays this to Yuki who then pays a surprise visit to Kyoto. Why did Yuki go to Kyoto? Can Bad Luck sell a million records? And what's going on with Yuki's condition?

Track-11 Secret day

Yuki's sick in the hospital and from most accounts, Shuichi is to blame. Shuichi overhears Yuki, his sister and Tohma talking about Yuki moving back to New York and freaks out. Late at night, Shuichi sneaks into the hospital and speaks to Yuki as he is sleeping. Little does he know that Yuki is awake. It's time for a day away from the rest of the world, but what secrets will be uncovered? And what new revelations will be revealed?

Track-12 Breathless

Shuichi is going mad looking everywhere for Yuki. Tohma and even Yuki's own sister confront Shuichi and tell him to stay away from Yuki. Shuichi knows that Yuki has gone to New York, but realizes why Yuki left everything behind in Japan. Shuichi shows maturity and carries on with Bad Luck's concert. But can they really surpass Nittle Grasper? What's does Tohma have up his sleeve? And will Shuichi ever be able to see Yuki again?

Track-13 Got it all

Shuichi's all messed up - he's lost his voice, Yuki's gone, and Ryu-chan seems to be angry with him. Sorting out his own feelings, Shuichi decides to go to New York, but what will he find there? And could this really be the end?

OVA The OVA begins with Shuichi in a slump and unable to write lyrics. In the meantime, Nittle Grasper has been chosen to perform at the Tokyo Bay Music Fes and plans to introduce a new song by a new writer. And guess who the new writer is? One Eiri Yuki. Things keep going wrong. Will Shuichi be able to get out of his slump before the deadline?

(The OVA came out before the series and really has very little to do with it. Unlike the series, the OVA is cell animated so the animation quality and style is different. Also, you may want to note that the OVA and the series are two separate things and are not really connected.)
