Sence 6 The Conqueror

(Vacation time- a weekend off for the “Boys” and Brian goes with Nick to enjoy water sports in Florida. Nick attaches Brian to a hang glider on the back of his motorboat and guns the motor, sending it speeding and bumping over the water. We see Brian trying to hang on tightly while water splashes up into his face. In the distance, a sailboat is floating in their direction.)

Brian: (Panicked) LET ME DOWN!

Nick: You have to conquer your fear somehow, buddy.

Brain: I’m losing air…

Nick: C’mon Bri, I’m right here if we suddenly run out of speed, or wind for that matter.

Brian: (whimpering) How could you do this to your best friend?

Nick: How could I not? Every choice I gave you, you rejected.

Brian: Mountain climbing is much too fast…

Nick: How about going to the top of the Eiffel Tower?

Brian: That Tower is a disaster waiting to happen. It’s probably the main reason why people invented Jenga.

Nick: How about the roller coaster at Disney World?

Brian: I watched the cars stop at the very top. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

(Nick blows out a sigh and shakes his head.)

Nick: And the ferris wheel?

Brian: Much too crowded.

Nick: (desperate) The roof of my house!

Brian: Your house is fifty feet from the ground!

Nick: (reasoning) Well… the balconey leading from my room is only half that and I can guarentee that my roof is NOT fifty feet from the ground. (Laughs and looks up) But you are. See what I mean bud? It was either this or facing the reality of never being able to use your powers.

Brian: (mumbling) I don’t need them.

Nick: We need you to help Leanna, remember? I will make you sign a contract if you try to back out.

Brian: Okay, fine… I guess I have to admit this isn’t so…

(This is where we see the motor boat skid to a stop, bumping the sailboat while we see Brian collide with the sailboat’s mast. Screams are heard from the two females.)

Nick: (calling with his head tilted up) HEY, man you okay up there? (chuckles)

Brian: I can’t tell! I have my eyes closed!

1st female: (looks up to Brian) Lets see if I can’t do something about this.

2nd Female: Reese, be careful…

(We see Reese begin to climb the pole, but not even halfway, she stops to notice the mast moving from side to side. Slowly, she climbs back down.)

Reese: (to Brian with annoyance) I suggest you jump.

Brian: Jump? (glances down)

Reese: That’s right. You’ve already done enough damage to my boat. I don’t need the mast broken to add.

Nick: (to Brian) You better jump, man.

Reese: You people are so irresponsible, you know that? Did you even know we were coming? Did you even care that you could’ve killed us with your dangerous machine.

Nick: I’m just guessing here, but you don’t like motorboats.

Reese: Not when they come ramming into a small sailboat. If you had been coming any faster we…

(We hear a splash and than we see Brian come up with the hang glider still attached to him. Nick goes to help him and detach the hang glider. Nick folds it up and looks over to the girls.)

Brian: (apologizes) We are SO sorry for all of this, Reese. This is our fault and we take all the blame, right Nick?

(Nick starts to shake his head, but Brian continues his speech)

Brian: We didn’t see you. We weren’t even looking and we shouldn’t have been so selfish.

Nick: (smacks Brian upside the head. In a harsh whisper) Why don’t you just ask her out already?

Reese: (crosses her arms over herself) I accept your apology.

2nd Female: It was our fault too… wasn’t it? We weren’t looking either. (Gazes with a smile to Nick)

Reese: (whispers) You have a crush don’t you, Laura?

Nick: I think we are getting off the subject here…

Brian/Laura: (to Reese and Nick) Do you wanna go out some time?

Brian: (smiles at Reese) Maybe tonight.

Laura: (gazes at Nick) Defenitely tonight.

Nick/ Reese: What?

(Nick and Reese look at each other, both surprised by the offers.)

Nick: Sure…

Reese: (takes a firm look at Brian) I guess it couldn’t hurt.

(Brian pecks Reese on the cheek and Laura presses a teasing kiss against Nick’s cheek. He smiles awkwardly.)

Nick: Okay that’s settled than.

Reese: Both of you, be ready by seven tonight. I will come with Laura to pick you up. By the way where are you staying?

Brian: (quickly) We’ll just meet on the dock.

Reese: Perfect.

Brian: Yeah…

Laura: (leans her chin on her hand to admire Nick) Oh yeah…

Nick: (unsure) Yeah.

(This leads straight into seven o’clock and Nick and Brian are waiting on the dock for the girls. Nick is pacing from one end of the dock to the other and finally blurts it all out)

Nick: I can’t do this!

Brian: What do you mean you can’t do this?

Nick: I mean… that I have no feelings for this girl at ALL. She kissed me and I felt nothing. Should I be dating some girl I’m not even attracted to?

Brian: If it were sooner and you hadn’t accepted I’d say no, but you did accept so you should be a gentleman and treat the lady good tonight. Who knows maybe a bit of romance and moonlight will change your feelings.

Nick: Somehow I really doubt that.

Brian: Love is funny that way, Nick. Sometimes, you never know until you try.

(Nick sighs heavily, but still feels the same. He hears the girls voices from behind him and slowly turns around to face two very stunning looking ladies ready for their dates. Reese is dressed in a scarlet silk dress with straps for sleeves and Laura is dressed in a white summer dress of satin with light blue roses along the collar and sleeves. Even with how beautiful Laura looks he can’t seem to feel anything. Slowly, he takes her hand, grins and leads her off the dock.)

(Next we see Reese circling Brian, shaking her head)

Reese: I don’t think this is fair. Look at me all dressed up and look at you wearing jeans and a dress shirt. This is a man thing isn’t it?

Brian: You look absolutely amazing…

Reese: (looks down at herself) Really?

Brian: I’m in awe! (opens his mouth to prove this)

Reese: (smiles) Well, I’m glad cause I wanted to look my best for tonight.

(Brian takes Reese’s hand to lead her to a beach restaurant where they eat and talk, proving to be happy with strong smiles, long looks and genuine laughter. Next we see them dancing in the middle of the restaurant; their eyes on each other’s until Reese rests her head on Brian’s shoulder. Close up on the two as they dance. Cut to the two of them running down the long stretch of beach towards a hill of boulders. Reese makes a turn and splashes through the water only to be caught and spun by Brian.)

Reese: (laughing) STOP! I just ate remember? Now, about my boat.

Brian: (stops spinning Reese to start tickling her.) Are you going to hold that against me for the rest of my life?

Reese: Depends on how embarrassed you were.

Brian: Really embarrassed.

Reese: Than yes. (she smiles) By the way the part of the beach you’re making me stand in right now has leeches.

Brian: (laughs gently) Uh huh… and fish and and seaweed and… this part of the beach has us. (He lifts a strand of wet hair from Reese’s cheek) It’s perfect.

Reese: (nods) I agree… (gasps and looks down) and something just tickled me.

Brian: It was me.

(Brian shrugs and lifts Reese up to start tickling her stomach. She escapes and runs to the sand laughing as she deliberately collapses onto it. Brian falls on top of her and grips her face in his hands.)

Brian: (breathy) Reese…

Reese: (chokes back her laughter) Brian?

Brian: I feel like I’ve known you my whole life and everything about you makes me smile… am I supposed to feel this way on the first date?

Reese: (closes her eyes) I guess it depends… (opens her eyes slowly) on who you’re with.

(Brian leans forward to press a romantic kiss on Reese’s lips and holds her there on the sand.) (Nick and Laura arrive on the scene.)

Laura: (cooes) Oooh!

Nick: Laura, I need to tell you something. (glances to Reese and Brian)

Laura: Anything… It’s actually a relief to know you want to talk. You were quiet all night.

Nick: Yeah and there’s a reason… for that.

Laura: What is it? (she smiles and presses close to Nick) Tell me…

Nick: I… I don’t… (again he glances to the couple, then closes his eyes) I don’t know how love works.

Laura: Nobody knows how love works, Nick. It just works, like a miracle. (Laura kisses Nick softly). One day we’ll figure that out.

(Laura takes him and kisses him longer and the night fades.)

(The last day of training for the “Boys”. Brian is nervous to the point where he can feel butterflies flapping around in his stomach. He knows that he hasn’t yet conquered his fear of heights, but wants, badly to try out his powers. He stands outside the Gym door, crushing a fist to his forehead in hopes that he would somehow gain the courage he needs. Reese enters to surprise Brian and she catches him from behind).

Reese: (excited) I found you! So… what’s the big secret you have to hide? (she laughs)

Brian: (bland) B-ball.

Reese: (joking) Come on you don’t come here to play B-ball. What’s really going on? Ya got a cult in there or a bunch of beings from outer space?

Brian: What are you talking about? (turns to face her with a serious expression)

Reese: You come here so often I just… well, anyway I was kid…

Brian: (cuts her off angrily) What do you do spy on me? I told you this place is private and that’s how it’s gonna stay! So stop butting in!

Reese: You’re trying to tell me B-ball is private? (crosses her arms over herself)

Brian: Reese…

Reese: (goes to enter the gym. Brian barricades her way, by pulling her back) (angrily) What’s going on? What are you doing behind my back?

Brian: Nothing…

Reese: You say that like you mean it… but you know that if it’s nothing than I wouldn’t be in so much pain. If it was nothing you wouldn’t leave me in the dark. Nothing isn’t worth this, is it? (Reese turns and races off)

Brian: (losing his anger) Reese… REESE! (Brian races after her) (Brian races into a park where he frantically searches for Reese) Reese… please.

Reese’s voice:You can just walk away now, because I’m not even going to make the effort of coming down to see you.

Brian: Reese? (Looks up)

(There we see her up high in the tree, seated on a thick branch.)

Reese: I told you to go away!

Brian: I can’t go away until I tell you all the reasons why I’m sorry.

Reese: Why don’t you men ever give up? (huffs annoyed)

(Brian starts to climb the tree)

Brian: I’m sorry because I realized too late that I was wrong.

(Brian reaches the first branch)

I’m sorry because I know I hurt you by keeping you in the dark.

(Brian reaches the second branch)

I’m sorry because as much as I’d love to tell you what’s going on in the gym. I can’t because I’m sworn to secrecy.

(We see Reese pull up her legs and roll her eyes. Brian reaches the third branch).

I’m sorry… because I know the moment I reach you I will see sad tears in your beautiful eyes that I caused.

(Brian reaches the fourth branch just as Reese wipes away on coming tears)

I’m sorry because I know that I might never see your face again or your smile or the way your hair cascades down your shoulders.

(Reese touches her hair and chokes back a sob. Brian reaches her branch)

And I’m more than sorry that even though I climbed all the way up here to tell you, I love you I won’t hear you say it back.

Reese: (grabs Brian to embrace him and kiss him intensely) I love you…

Brian: (tearfully, he drops his head on Reese’s knees) I’m SO sorry.

Reese: (strokes Brian’s hair) I forgive you…

Brian: (looks up) Thank God… (smiles)
