Chapter 3 - The News

9 am down in the kitchen

“So Kat what kinda cereal do you want.” Brian asked standing in front of the cabinet that had all of the cereal in it.

“I’ll have frosted flakes.” I said walking over to the refrigerator to get the milk out.

“I think I’ll agree with that one.” Brian said as he got out 2 bowls and poured the cereal into them.

“So…how was Florida?” I asked pouring the milk into the 2 bowls. Then shooting the milk carton into the recycle bin.

“Hey that’s my girl.” Brian said joking around as I made the milk carton into the ‘basket.’ He then continued to answer my question as we both sat down at the bar. “It was great! You wouldn’t believe how beautiful it is there.” He said as he went on for the next 2 and a half-hours about Florida and all the things he’d done and seen. While I sat there listening closely.

11:30 am

“Wow amazing! Sounds like you had a great time.” I said after Brian had finished talking about Florida.

“Yea I did.” He said knowing I was dying for him to tell me whether he had made it into the band or not.

“So are you gonna tell me or do I have to tickle it out of you?” I asked.

“What do you mean?” He asked playing dumb.

“You dummy! Did you make the band or not?!” I yelled impatiently.

“Oh yea I made it.” He said pretending it was no big deal.

“Oh my gosh! Congratulations!” I screamed getting up and hugging him.

“Thanks! I know I can’t believe I made it!” He yelled excited hugging me.

“Thanks Katelene but there’s so much more to it than that.” Brian stated hugging me tighter.

“What do you mean ‘there’s so much more to it than that’ Brian?” I asked pulling away from him to look in his eyes so he couldn’t lie to me. I guess that’s a good thing about Brian and I, if you know us well enough you can just look in our eyes and tell whether we’re lying or not. That’s where I catch him, I’m his sister so I know him well enough to be able to read his eyes.

“I said that out loud?” Brian asked. I nodded. “Oh…um….well, why don’t we go into the living room and I’ll tell you what I mean.” He said, and by the look in his eyes I could tell I wasn’t gonna like the news.

In The Living Room

“Ok Brian, What’d you mean?” I asked once we sat down on the couch facing each other.

“Well, um, Katie, you see, um…” He stated trying to find some way to tell me.

“Brian just tell me.” I said begging him with my eyes.

“You’re not very patient today are ya Kat?” Brian asked with a forced smile trying to stall. I just sat there waiting for him to tell me, not moving my eyes off of his face. He took a deep breath and began to tell, something he didn’t really want to tell.

Brian’s P.O.V.

“God please help me tell her.” I thought, as I was about to give my sister news I never thought I would never have to do. “Katelene, the rest of the guys and I are going to have to have to go over seas and I’m going to have to move to Florida.” I said. Then sat watching her and waiting for her reaction. I sat wondering what she was thinking hoping she would soon say something, anything. “You’re leaving” I heard as Katie pulled me out of my trance. I looked at her to see the tears swelling up in her eyes.

My P.O.V.

“You’re leaving.” I stated with my voice cracking and feeling the tears sting my eyes, also pulling Brian out of his trance. He looked at me and pulled me into a brotherly hug, letting me cry on his shoulder.

“Katie it’s ok. Please don’t cry.” Brian said rubbing my back. “It’s ok. I’m sure you’ll get to come on tour with me every once in awhile. You never know maybe you’ll get to come with us in a week when we leave since it’s summer. And I’m sure Mom and Dad will let you come down to Florida and stay. Katie please, it’s ok.” Brian said.

Brian’s P.O.V.

I always hated to see her cry it made me feel like I was a terrible brother to her especially when I was the cause. “God please let her be ok please don’t let it happen again.” I silently prayed in my head while telling her it’d be ok. She slowly pulled out of my arms whipping her eyes that were now a dull blue. “You ok ?” I asked her.

My P.O.V.

“Yea I’m fine.” I stated, “I’m sorry I shouldn’t of burst into tears like that it’s just you just got back and now your leaving again in a week. I just missed you so much.” I finished leaning over and hugging him. “It’s ok Katie don’t worry about it I missed you too.” Brian said hugging me back and I pulled away.

“God Katie you’re such a baby you shouldn’t of burst into tears like that, now that you’ve probably made him feel bad for leaving.” I thought. “Yea Katie you had no right to cry like that Brian has only been there pretty much everyday of your life since you were born.” My conscious said. “Guess that’s right he has been there pretty much everyday of your life.” I thought
