Ian Kenny:

Ian Kenny is a guitar god, who puts on a powerful performance, and it is a shame his talent has been overlooked as he deserves to be a music legend of the world. It is rather selfish of Perth not to share such brilliance.

Ian Kenny was first known for True Colors, and went on to play with top notch bands such as Worlds End, which lasted a long time until the band burned out and went seperate ways. Ian Kenny later went on to form his own band, the 'Ian Kenny Band'. This three-piece cover band showcased three of Australia's most talented musicians. Ian Kenny (lead guitar/lead singer), Jon Ryder (bass guitar/singer), Jeff Oliver (drums). These guys knew how to play till it hurt!

Ian Kenny went on to support International acts such as Statas Quo, Deep Purple, and Chain. In 2000 the Ian Kenny Band released the CD album 'Take Your Pick". The Ian Kenny Band lasted a very long time (about 10 years) until the band burned out and went seperate ways. It is a crying shame, as these guys really did deserve a shot at cracking the big time, instead they were never able to break out of the the 'Almost Famous' Category.

Jon Ryder later joined the band VDelli, and Jeff Oliver went on to play drums for Pearl Coast. Ian Kenny is still Rockin' Hard today!

Ian Kenny Band:

Ian Kenny was the founder (obviously!) of the Ian Kenny Band, which was a cover band that became very popular on the pub circuit. They played all the hits from the 70’s through to the 90’s. The Ian Kenny Band soon established a firm reputation on the music scene, as a force to be reckoned with, and went on to support legendary acts such as Matt Taylor (Chain), Status Quo, Steve Morse Band, and Deep Purple. In 2000 Ian Kenny Band cut an innovative album, ‘Take your pick!” The album featured a cabaret of original music from rhythm and blues and ballads, to hard rock and metal. Sadly the Album was largely ignored by the industries ‘mainstream’, and failed to gain the recognition it so richly deserved.

The three-piece trio included Ian Kenny (True Colours, Worlds End) on lead guitar and vocals, Jon Ryder (Saracen, Trilogy, Vdelli) on bass and backup vocals, and Jeff Oliver (Poor Boys) on drums. Jon Ryder was the first to leave the band, later teaming up with the well-known band Vdelli, and Paul O’Neill signed on as the new Bass Player. Jeff Oliver also parted ways, and went on to join Pearl Coast, with Peter Dean and Rod Coxwell (former members of ‘The Jets’).

The Original members of Ian Kenny Band put on a powerful performance. These guys were tight, and proved to be a tough act to follow, and the newly re-formed Ian Kenny Band, although a Rock powerhouse in its own right, didn’t seem to yield the same cutting edge results as the original line up, which was second to none.

Worlds End:

Worlds End was a top-notch rock band, but folded in the throws of a record deal overseas. Worlds End could be seen playing at venues such as the Charles Hotel and Sandhurst Run, and lasted a long time until the band burned out and went seperate ways.

When I first heard the band 'Worlds End' play, I honestly believed this band was going places. I was right in picking it as a winner, because Worlds End got its lucky break, and they were due to head to the good old USA for that all-illusive record deal. Unfortunately, the band dissolved before this could happen.

True Colors:

True Colors - Cover Band

True Colors played all the hard rock classics from Deep Purple, Gary Moore, Thin Lizzy etc. The Band mostly played at the City Hotel, which was a well known venue for the hard rock bands and always had a crowd.

True Colors featured Dave Crosby on vocals, Ian Kenny (Ian Kenny Band, Worlds End) on guitar/vocals, Ashley Cook (Trilogy, Saracen) on drums/vocals, Bob Fortesque (Fatty Limpkin, Blackfeather, Ssarb) on bass, and Todd Brindley(Hurricanes) on guitar/vocals. True Colors released one album, and the various members can still be seen playing around town...

Ashley Cook has since moved to Bunbury, gotten married, and is still playing drums today. Ashley is a great guy, and one of the nicest people you could ever meet. I do remember one memorable gig, where Ashley, who was a tad pissed at the time, fell backwards of the stage mid-way into drumming out a number. Considering it was about a 6-foot drop off the stage, it's amazing he didn't break his neck. "I don't have a drinking problem... I get drunk, I fall over, see no problem!"
