ASPIRING singer and songwriter Simon Ditchman gave up everything to pursue his passion for music on Popstars.
And just when it looked like his dream was dashed, the 22-year-old has been named the fifth member of the group.
The Tasmanian performer was found by The Sunday Telegraph enjoying a swim and walk on a northern Sydney beach on Friday morning.
He was whisked from the Popstars Paddington headquarters to a house at Narrabeen early last Sunday as the popular show prepared for the identities of his band-mates to be revealed.
As the episode left viewers waiting to find out who would be the second male member of the rhythm and blues group, Ditcham was kept behind closed doors by tour manager and personal assistant Kirsty McLean at her home.
Until last year, he was set on a career in architecture. He worked at an architectural firm before deciding to quit and follow his passion for music, taking up guitar lessons.
Tonight, he joins Jason Bird, Tamara Jaber, Anna Belperio and Daniela Scala at their Paddington home.
The group begins a major promotional assault tomorrow. Their first launch is at Planet Hollywood next Sunday.
The group's debut single will be taken to radio stations the next day and then released to retailers on April 16.
