Reckless Nights

They said you'd better watch your back, boy, you've made some enemies

He never heeded their advice; his pride is all he sees

He puts on his leather and heads out to make the night his own

The wild wind and whiskey put hellfire in his bones

Brass knuckles and a switchblade are his only company

The skyline fades to black and the wind howls through the trees

He hears footsteps behind him and his heart begins to sink

It sounds like five or more and they come quickly, so he thinks

He walks a little faster but the group just follows suit

He hears sinister laughter amongst the scraping of their boots

He breaks into a run but finds a dead end of closed gates

He grits his teeth and turns around to accept his fate

He sees five leering faces like demons come to collect

Not a second's passed before he swings and he connects

Brass knuckles from his pocket have made four where once stood five

And his shiny blade lashes out leaving one more barely alive

The three who now remain fall in and drag our hero down

Fists and chains and bludgeons crush him into the cold wet ground

Blood now fills his mouth and dreams of angels fill his mind

The beating still goes on but he's left his body far behind

For the first time in his short life as he dies he is afraid

He died without redemption and he'll have no angel's serenade

Reckless nights, it just ain't right, but to get by you have to fight

You had to fight, it just ain't right, this is your final reckless night
