3rd National Schools Tenpins Bowling Championships 1996

At the beginning of the year, the bowling club had a recruitment drive for the new Sec.1 pupils. Due to the overwhelming response, our teacher adviser, Ms Chew Kah Wai, had to do a selection.

The National Age Group Bowling Tournament was a big event on the calendar. Tan Zhen Han and Melvyn Tan were sponsored by Victor's Superbowl. They did the school proud by obtaining a silver in the doubles and a gold in the team events. Tan Zhen Han clinched a bronze in the singles and gold in the All-Events. The school fielded three teams in this prestigious competition. One team from 'C' Division, two from 'B' Division. The 'C' Division team obtained a bronze in the team event.

Spurred by the performance, Ms Chew and coach Mr. Rahiman, doubled the training for the National Schools Championship. The students went through rigorous selection trials. Finally, three teams from each category were fielded and sponsored by the school.

The atmosphere was tense in this year's National Schools Championships as competition was stiff especially for the 'C' boys. With encouragement from Ms. Chew, Mr. Gregory Lim and Mr. Rahiman, as well as the support of our Principal, Dr. Ong Teck Chin and head of P.E. department, Mr. Chan Chee Wei, the team gave of their best.

The 'C' Division teams did exceptionally well. They made an almost a clean sweep of all 12 medals, except for the Singles silver and Team bronze. Our school retained the 'C' Division boys trophy for the second year running. The 'B' Division boys, under intense pressure and compeition, managed to clinch a bronze medal in the Doubles and Team events and silver in the All-Events. Our school was second overall, just behind Thomson Secondary in the 'B' Division category.

The bowling club performed well this year, but we will not rest on our laurels. We will strive to better this year's record.

Finally, the bowling club would like to thank the school administration for the generous support given to us.

Teacher-in-Charge: Mr. Gregory Lim Ms. Chew Kah Wai.
