The ACS (I) Bowling Team has performed well this year. We started training once the final
examination ended in November 1997 and continued throughout the year-end hoidays.
From January 1998, we carried on with our training and also took part in several bowling
competitons, like the Victor's Sports Club Bowling Championships and the MGS inter-school Bowling
Championships.
The time finally came where we had to put ourselves to the test in May. As
defending champions, the ACS (I) bowling team was invited to take part in the Invitational
Schools Bowlwing Championships which was held concurrently with the First Asian Schools
Bowling Championships in Orchid Country Club. Tang Loon Yang, Aaron Choy, Darren Ang and Cheng
Chen Ze were selected to represent the school in this event.
During the June holidays, our
school took part in the National Age-Group, which was held at the Singapore Bowling Academy.
In the 'C' Division's Singles event, we saw Mark Cheong clinching the gold and Vincent Chan
taking the silver. Amid stiff competition in the 'B' Division, the team of Aaron Choy, Tang
Loon Yang, Bruce Lye and Tan Zhen Han bowled extremely well to win the gold medal.
Throughout the months of June and July, intensive training was held to prepare the ACS (I)
bowling team for the 5th. National Schools Bowling Championships. On 27 - 31 July 1998,
3 teams were sent from each division to represent the school in Chaampionships held in the
Singapore Bowling Academy. The teams battled the tough lanes courageously to clinch the
overall 'first runner's up' position for both the divisions. The 'B' division especially
performed very well, losing out to ACS (Barker Road) by a narrow margin of 30 pins. On the
whole, the bowlers also achieved some very good individual results.
The bowling team would like to thank the head coach, Mr. Lawrence Song and the
teachers-in-charge, Mrs. Judy Ho and Ms. Wee Kin Ngo for their endless encouragement, care
and support. We are also grateful to our principal, Dr. Ong and our Head of ECAs, Mr. Chan
Chee Wei for their unfailing support during the National Schools Bowling Championships.
The ACS (I) Bowling Team will continue to train hard to prepare ourselves for next year.
While we may have lost the overall championship titles, we had fought all the way to the end.
We will take this fighting spirit with us and strive to ensure victory in the next season as
"The Best Is Yet To Be!"
