ACS(I) pupils are always noted for their ingenuity, resourcefulness and creativity. In addition to these, they possess a passion and a commitment that is second to none in whatever they set their mind in doing. This is true for the ACS(I) Bowlers who have banded themselves to form a Club and whats more, to capitalise on the cyberspace technology, they have created a web-site to their credit but more so, in trying to reach out to other bowlers as well as the general population of ACSians at large. I must commend them on their sterling effort and foresight. They have demonstrated their resolve and pride in the Co-curricular activity of their choice and I am sure they will be able to garner strong support for their endeavour.
Although Bowling per se is a relatively new CCA in the long history of ACS(I), it has nevertheless won the admiration of the ACS(I) fraternity eversince it came into our school sport scene and even in the National Inter-school sports competitions. This is evident from the great successes our bowlers have been able to accomplish in so short a time since the inception of the game as one of our CCAs. The Bowlers have already achieved a number of championship titles in its short history and I am confident they will continue to secure many more Golds for the school. In this respect, I wish them God's richest blessings and many great successess to come. The creation of a web-site is most timely and will certainly help in the publicity of this important CCA in our school. There is always a dearth of news and coverage on school activities because of our great variety of CCAs and innumerous programmes and hence the Bowlers have capitalised on this avenue to maintain a link with the student population is certainly commendable. Like you, I shall await with anticipation to be kept updated and informed on what goes on with this game throught the web-site. On behalf of the Senior Administration of the School, I wish the ACS(I) Bowlers' Club every success, believing always that the Best Is Yet To Be.
God Bless,
Dr Ong Teck Chin

When I was in school, our ambitions and aspirations were centred on being teachers, doctors, engineers, electrical, civil or mechanical, dentists, lawyers and accountants. Never did we think, talk or discuss the Computer World, a Website, Internet or dot-com implosion. In the last twenty years, this equipment has taken centre-stage and typewriters are now a thing of the past. There is little use of them. Our daily lives cannot be without the computer, hence their importance. I have browsed through “The International Thesaurus of Quotations” to see if I could find a quote under “C” but end up with “Completion, Compliance, Compliment, Composure, Comprehension, Compromise, Compulsiveness and Commencement”. There is no “Computer” which implies that the book has become archaic! Perhaps it is time to find an updated one.
All professionals today use computers and a short course on its use makes them proficient to use them as one would use a typewriter, pencil, etc. It has indeed become an essential tool for our daily chores.
I am happy to note that you have taken special interest in this field and have set-up a website for ACS (I) Bowlers. Constant update of data on performance of bowlers will certainly generate greater use and popularity of your website.
I therefore wish you and your colleagues every success and satisfaction in keeping with the latest information on Tenpin Bowling. In the meantime, keep on bowling. Even though it means throwing more money into the gutter before one becomes a better bowler.
Best Wishes,
Mr SIDEK SANIFF
ADVISOR,
SINGAPORE TENPIN BOWLING CONGRESS.

Mr. Ron Wade Hoppe |
| | | | A bout 50 years ago at around age 13, I was going into the seventh grade at
school, and a friend asked me if I would join him on his bowling team. There
were three of us on the team and we bowled on Saturday mornings. The name of
our team was "The King Pins" and my mother made us team bowling shirts. We
thought we were pretty hot stuff at the time as we were the only ones with
team shirts.
Bowling was a little different when I learned. For starters there were no
automatic pin setters. In fact my first job was as a pin setter. All of the
bowling balls were made of rubber, and the lightest house ball available was
12 pounds. That is unless you used the small bowling balls. These were
bowling balls that were made much smaller so they would only weigh 9-11
pounds. The problem was they were too small to have much power against the
pins.
Soon after joining the team I was hooked on bowling. My average that first
year was a monstrous 135. My high game for the year was a tremendous 201 and
my high 3 game series was 514. Three years later I finally was able to buy my
own personal bowling ball. It was a 16 pound Brunswick Black Beauty which
seemed very heavy at the time. The pro shop operator assured me I was in a
man's sport and needed a 16 pound bowling ball.
Of course at the young age of 13 I had no idea what an impact bowling would
have on my life. As I traveled through the many turns in my life bowling
always stayed with me. Then 30 years ago bowling became my full time
occupation. I have learned through trial and error to respect the sport of
bowling. It has been a good teacher. My passion for bowling has taken me
around the world. I am very proud to be the Head Coach for Singapore.
For the youngsters of Singapore I share these thoughts. There are no short
cuts to success. Bowling is a lifetime sport and recreation, as long as you
enjoy it you are successful.
Regards, Mr Ron Hoppe (Former National Head Coach)

The year 2003 will be long remembered by our Team ACS (I) Keglers. As history once again repeated as both the Team ACS (I) 'B' Divisions and the Team ACS (I) 'C' Divisions were crowned Champion. This clearly demonstrates that our Team ACS (I) Keglers' undisputed sheer determination and commitment to bring back both the championship titles.
Undoubtedly, once again, Team ACS (I) Keglers can and will continue to uphold both the Championship titles in high esteem, and will continue to demonstrates that it will be the only school in Singapore to have won a title every year. Indeed Team ACS (I) has done remarkably well.
