When Carmen Kempt won the Canadian Search For Miss Universe Pageant in 1997 she won for her beauty, her intellegence, and her sincerity. Carmen is from the cute city of Red Deer, Alberta.

Before becoming Miss Canadian Universe Carmen originally was Miss Teen Red Deer. She then represented Canada at the 1997 CSMU pageant and then went to the Miss Universe pageant.

At CSMU Carmen was great. She was very intellgent onstage questions and was a favorite from the beginning. She was very poised onstage and lovely winner.

At Miss Universe 1997

In the parade of nations Canada got to see their representative at Miss Universe introduce herself in her costume.

Carmen's national costume was a mountie. She looked nice and one thing I noticed was how great her hair was in the opening number. (When she was not hearing the hat.)

When Carmen introduced herself she said with great pride: "Good evening and bon soir. My name is Carmen Kempt and I'm representing the land of the north, true, strong, and free, Canada."

In the swimsuit preliminaries Carmen wore a green swimsuit. She is over 5 foot, ten inches tall.

Carmen wore the same red evening gown at CSMU as she did in the Miss Universe preliminaries. It was okay, Carmen is very pretty but the gown didn't really stand out that much and wasn't really the style usually worn to Miss Universe. Despite this she was still lovely.

The gown Carmen wore on the final night of competition was a green full length slip gown. She looked lovely and wore her hair down. Whoever made Carmen's gown was very smart! Green is an excellent colour for her. The gown was a simple design but had beautiful bead work done to it and Carmen wore it well.

Carmen's Reign

During her reign Carmen did different things. She appeared in the Calgary Stampede and travelled to Ontario...

Carmen really is so so so approachable, sweet and friendly and most people who meat her just love her. Since her reign as Miss Canadian Universe Carmen has continued working with the Canadian Search For Miss Universe Pageant and competed at the Miss Oktoberfest 1998 pageasnt. She is currently taking Journalism at the Universary of Calgary. We could see Carmen reading the new soon but no matter what she does Carmen will always be the sweet Albertan girl who won the judges hearts.
