St Michael's Mount is situated just off Marazion. Originally the site of a benedictine chapel, the spectacular castle on top of this famous rocky island dates from the 12th century. Approached by a causeway at low tide, the castle has magnificent views towards Land's End and The Lizard, fascinating early rooms, an armoury, a rococo Gothic drawing room and, at the highest point, a 14th-century church.
