They were to have been picked up by helicopter but due to heavy snow helicopter could not fly in. They were not well equipped and had no overnight supplies. Initial contact could not be made via radios with the 4 workers, later while the SAR Crews were inroute contact was made. The workers were located by SAR Crews on the shore by a small fire they had started, they were suffering mild hypothermia. Were transported to CCG Port Henry and then to Prince Rupert where they were treated by BCAS staff.
- Feb. 07th (2000hrs - 2030hrs): Rescue 15's Lifeboat crew responded to a vessel's call for assistance in Tuck Inlet. The vessel reported it was caught in a snow storm with zero visibility and required an escort back to Prince Rupert. Before Lifeboat crews could get underway the weather had cleared, the vessel operator advised he could see the lights of the city, and did not require further assistance. Radio contact was kept with the vessel until it was secure at the dock.
- Feb. 07th (2300hrs) - Feb 08th (0100hrs): One Rescue 15 member returning from the SAR Managers Course witnessed a MVA approx. 90km west of Kamloops. The member secured the site and provided first aid to the one occupant, who had major facial lacerations. RCMP & BC Ambulance arrived from Kamloops approx. 1 hour after the incident had happened. This incident was unique as it wasn't in our region, but the member used his training he received through Rescue 15 and PEP to control the site and provide first aid. The member was carrying his SAR ready pack, so he had all the equipment he needed to aid the person.
