Star-Studded Event at House of Blues Celebrates Online Music Greats with Performances by Chris Isaak, Cypress Hill, No Doubt, and The Offspring
Some of music's biggest names gathered tonight as the winners of the first annual ARTISTdirect Online Music Awards were announced during a gala event held at the House of Blues.
Artists including Korn, Madonna, Ricky Martin, the Backstreet Boys, Sugar Ray, The Offspring, Eminem, Limp Bizkit, the Beastie Boys and Nine Inch Nails were among the award-winning artists honored for excellence in music on the World Wide Web and for being tops in their respective categories according to fans.
A total of fifteen awards were handed out during the ceremony by celebrity presenters including Kirk Hammett of Metallica, Dwight Yoakam,, and former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist, Dave Navarro. The awards gala also included live performances by Chris Isaak, Cypress Hill, No Doubt and The Offspring, as well as winners of ARTISTdirect's ``Born on the World Wide Web'' contest, a global virtual talent search which began back in July this year.
The ARTISTdirect Online Music Awards were designed to recognize excellence in music on the World Wide Web as determined by fans. Nominations for the Awards, which ranged from Favorite Hip-Hop Artist to Best Unsigned Artist Site, were based on a variety of factors, including feedback from music industry professionals and an analysis of the most searched-for sites on the UBL.com, a part of the ARTISTdirect Network. The winners of each Award were then determined by fans that submitted their votes on the UBL.com.
