Backstreet Boys' 'Black And Blue' Beats Up The Competition

(12/6/00, 4 p.m. ET) - The Backstreet Boys latest album Black & Blue sold more than 689,000 copies in its second week of release, keeping the quintet firmly atop the album sales chart. The Florida-based group's third album has now sold a U.S. total of more than 2.28 million copies, according to industry sources.

The Beatles 1, a collection of Fab Four chart toppers, also keeps pace and arrives at Number Two for the second week running, with sales of more than 606,000 copies, while the various artists compilation Now That's What I Call Music Volume 5 remains at Number Three.

Creed's Human Clay enjoyed a huge spike in sales this week and jumps nine spots to Number Four, propelled no doubt by the hit single "With Arms Wide Open," which is Number Three on the Billboard Hot 100. Creed's past hit "Higher" also holds the top spot on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Recurrent Chart.

Slipping one spot to Number Five this week is Tim McGraw's Greatest Hits, while Sade's Lovers Rock holds on at Number Six. The rest of the top 10 features Limp Bizkit's Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavored Water at Number Seven, Britney Spears's Oops!... I Did It Again at Number Eight, TP-2.Com from R. Kelly at Number Nine, and 'N Sync's No Strings Attached at Number 10.

Noticeable movers outside the top 10 include the Wu-Tang Clan's The W, which drops 14 places to Number 19, while Charlotte Church's Dream A Dream rises nine spots to Number 16, and Shaggy's Hotshot also up climbs nine to Number 15.
