Burlap to Cashmere is a wonderful band that sounds unlike any music I've ever heard before - mostly latin sounding, with a hint of pop and folk, and even, on occasion, I think Gaelic. They describe their music as being "combined with arrangements full of flamenco guitar, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and old-world Greek bazouki music." They amaze me. They're also a Christian band, which makes them all the cooler, and means yet again that their lyrics have something to say. Does anyone notice a trend here? Good lyrics are important to me! I've found that in the case of Burlap to Cashmere (isn't that a great name?) you either hate them or you love them - I love them!
Their only album right now - Anybody Out There? - is fantastic, and I'd recomend it to anyone looking for a different flavor of music. Songs include Basic Instructions (which I've heard on non-Christian radio and which was nominated for the Dove Award song of the year), Eileen's Song (one of my favorites) and Treasures in Heaven. The band itself is a group of seven guys: Steven Delopoulos, John Philippidis, Josh Zandman, Theodore Pagano, Roby Guarnera, Mike Earnest, and Scott Barksdale.
Favorite Lyrics as of now - from Eileen's Song -
"You have one wing / I have the other / seeking shelter like sister and brother / through the winter and through the summer / like one angel we'll fly far away...."
