Chapter 18

Trent stopped dancing with me and looked at Brian. “Sure” he said backing away from me.
Brian came up and wrapped his arms around the small of my back.
“Hi” he said looking down at me.
“Hi” I said looking up at him.
That is all we said for the rest of the song. We just slowly danced closely with each other.
When the song ended we pulled apart and Brian took my hand. “Let’s go talk somewhere private.”
We walked on one of the little dirt paths. We made our way to an isolated section of the park. The whole time walking neither of us said a word. We sat down on a bench overlooking a small creek.
We sat together in a moment of awkward silence. "Cindy, first of all I would like to say sorry. “ Brian said breaking the silence. “That fight we had was all my fault. I am sorry for not yelling at AJ when he was being so mean. I am sorry for not understanding you. I am sorry for not letting you know who I really am. Most of all I’m sorry for not going after you when you left.
As Brian talked, I looked down at the creek. When he said his last sentence, I looked up at him.
“I have missed you so much.” Brian said staring into my eyes. “I’ve wanted to call you but with my schedule and not knowing what to say, I never did. When Christine called to invite me to her wedding, I knew I needed to talk to you and let you know I’m sorry.”
I looked back down at the creek. “Christine invited you? She is quite the matchmaker.” I said smiling. I paused. “I’m glad she invited you. I’ve wanted to talk to you too. I’m sorry too.”
I looked up at Brian who was looking at me. “What do you say, do you want to give the relationship another shot?” Brian asked me.
I thought quickly about the night of the fight and how miserable I was on the bus home. I never wanted to feel that upset again. Yet I strongly feel that Brian is “the one” for me. If I said no to him right now I would regret it the rest of my life. I don’t think I could ever find someone as special as Brian.
“OK, but on one condition.” I told Brian smiling.
“What’s that?” he asked.
“Do you have anymore secrets you’re hiding from me?” I asked.
“Nope, sorry. Do you have any secrets you are hiding from me?” Brian asked sarcastically. “Nope, what you see is what you get.” I told him joking around.
“Oh, but you see.” Brian said looking me deeply into the eye. “I am very happy with what I am looking at.” Brian moved in and our lips gently met for the first time in months.
When our lips broke, I took in a deep breath. Oh, how good it felt to be with him.
“We should get back to the wedding.” I suggested. “We don’t want to miss anything big, like cutting the cake.”
Brian gave me a rewarding smile. “Ok. Let’s head back.” Brian took my hand and we slowly walked back to the wedding.
