Chapter 9

I turned around. The blonde-haired guy from the auto shop was standing there. He smiled at me and my heart totally missed a beat.
"Hi" I said then returning a smile. "Aren’t you the guy from the auto shop?"
"Yes" he said. "You look lonely so I thought I would keep you company. May I?"
"Sure" I said and he sat down in a chair sitting across the table from me.
"My name is Brian." He said as he putting his hand out for me to shake.
I shook it, "I’m Cindy".
"What a pretty name." He said.
I blushed, "Thanks, it’s an ok name."
"I saw you came in with someone, what happened to him."
"He left with another girl."
"Oh, I’m sorry" he said with a sympathetic look.
"It’s ok, I never got along with him anyway. Our first date and I dragged here by him. My friend and her boyfriend are here, but they are dancing." I told him. "They kind of set me up on a blind date with him. I thought I would like him and I gave him a chance, but lets just say that he wasn’t my type.
"I know what you mean. You try to get along with them, but there is just no click." Brian said to me and I realized that there was something more between us that wasn’t there with Trent. "At least you gave it a chance." The next fifteen or so minutes Brian and I talked and we got acquainted with each other. He was fun to talk to, he made jokes that were actually funny. He listened to what I had to say unlike Trent who looked like he was in La La Land until he wanted to make a lame joke.
As I talked to him I studied his face. He was cute and had a natural smile in which lit up his face. His eyes were a sparkling blue. He was so different than any other guy I have met or been on a date with. I felt comfortable around him and I felt like I could say anything to him and he would listen and understand.
"So what do you do for a living?" I asked him drinking the rest of my Coke.
Brian had a funny look on his face. "Oh, I am a singer."
"What kind of singer?" I asked and just then a slow song came on.
"Would you like to dance?" he asked me. "This is one of my favorite songs."
"Sure I would love to." He took my hand and guided me to the dance floor. He let go of my hand and put his hands on my hips. I moved closer to him and caught the scent of his cologne. It smelled so good. I closed my eyes and took in the moment. This felt so good to be in his arms.

1 month later-
"So who is this new man?" Bobbie, one of my good friends said to me over the phone.
"His name is Brian." I told her. "We have been dating for about a month now."
"Wow, one month. Is that longest time you have been out with anyone?" She joked around.
"Ha, ha, very funny. You know that isn’t true. I have been out with plenty of guys longer than that."
"Ya, when you were in High school." She said laughing.
I laughed too. "You might be right there."
We talked and I told her how I met him and all the things that we had done together already. Then we talked about our monthly dinner we had, and how I should bring Brian along.
"Bring Brian to the dinner so we can all meet him." Bobbie told me.
"Ok, that sounds like a good idea I’ll talk to him about it." I told her then I heard the phone click indicating that someone was on the other line. "Bobbie I got to go, someone is on the other line and it’s probably Brian." I told her. We said good bye and I pushed flash which took me to the other line.
"Hello" I said
"Hi!" Said a friendly voice.
"Oh, hi Brian."
"What are you doing?" He said in his southern accent.
"Just talking to a friend of mine. All my friends go on this monthly dinner to keep in touch. What do you think of coming with me?" I asked.
"I don’t know. I don’t want to intrude." Brian said.
"You won’t be intruding, they all want to meet you." I told him.
"Isn’t meeting the friends like meeting the family." He asked.
"No, meeting the friends thing is something after one month of dating, and the family comes after." I said joking around.
"Oh, in that case, ok" He said and I laughed.
"We are going to the Macaroni Grill. I guess you could come pick me up at my house and we can go together." I offered.
"Ok, sounds good. See you then."
"Bye" I said then hung up the phone.
