Endless Night's Turned Into Days
A little kitten jumped around in a pile of trash. "Mungojerrie!" called a voice, the kitten stopped and looked at his father. "Yes?" he asked. His father picked him and set him down on the ground. "How many times do I have to tell you to stay of there?" Mungojerrie's father asked. "Maybe three more times?" said Mungojerrie trying to get off punishment. "Very funny. Lets go." Said his father and the two went back to their tribe.
"Hey shortly!" yelled another kitten. Mungojerrie hissed, he didn't get along with the other kittens. Mungojerrie climbed into his bed. "Who needs the others! I have my dad, he'll always be with me." Thought Mungojerrie as he fell asleep. The next day Mungojerrie woke up with the whole tribe staring at him. "What?" he asked sleepily. The leader came up to him and picked him up by the neck and threw him in a cage. "What the-" started Mungojerrie but the leader cut in. "Shut up! Murder!" he yelled. "What?" cried Mungojerrie and then he saw his fathers dead body.
"But…but…I didn't do it! I would never do that!" cried Mungojerrie. "Really? I think not! Tomorrow you will join him." Snapped the leader and everyone left. "But…but…I would never do that!" thought Mungojerrie as he began to cry, "But, maybe I did do it. Maybe I was asleep when I did it. I'm sorry father…for whatever I did. I have to get out of here!"
Mungojerrie looked around; no one was anywhere to be seen. He took his claw and began to pick at the lock. Finally it came off. Mungojerrie opened the door and slipped over to where the door was. Behind him another older tomcat came after him. Mungojerrie began to run, the tomcat got a couple of swipes on Mungojerrie but Mungojerrie was too fast. Soon Mungojerrie got away from the tomcat. He laid down in an overturned trashcan. That night he cried himself to sleep.
The next day Mungojerrie continued to run. Soon he came to an ally, a huge ally cat stepped out in front of him. He was very tall and thin and he was a ginger cat. "Who are you?" he asked. Mungojerrie just stared at him with fear. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!" the ally cat yelled. Mungojerrie snapped out of it, "I'm Mungojerrie. I just ran away from my tribe." The ally cat looked at him, "Are you a Jellicle." he asked. "No." said Mungojerrie. The ally cat smiled, "My name is Macavity. You may join my tribe, but you must promise me something." Macavity said. "What?" asked Mungojerrie. "You must never betray me." Mungojerrie looked at him, "I promise." Macavity smiled and he and Mungojerrie left.
Month's later Mungojerrie grew to be a very good thief and very handsome. One day Mungojerrie saw some rats drag in a young Queen. She was just a few mouths younger than Mungojerrie and looked a lot like him too. Macavity came over to her, "What's your name?" The young Queen looked at him, "Rumpelteazer." She growled. "You will stay here until you die. You will become one of us. You should find a place to sleep." And with that Macavity left. One of the stronger toms came over to Rumpelteazer. "Hey baby." He sneered. He backed her up against a wall. "G-Get away from me." She said. "Why?" he asked, smiling. Mungojerrie stepped in front of the tom. "Get out of here." Mungojerrie growled. "Why should I? I saw her first." The tom growled. "Leave her alone." Said Mungojerrie. Rumpelteazer slowly started away from the two toms. The other tom came closer to her and Mungojerrie jumped on him. The two rolled around on the floor hissing and biting. Finally the other tom gave up and walked away.
Mungojerrie was limping on his right leg as he came over to Rumpelteazer. "Are you alright?" he asked. "Yes, thank you." She said. "I'm Mungojerrie." He said. "I'm Rumpelteazer." She said. She looked down at the floor and started to cry. Mungojerrie looked at her and put his arm around her, she looked up and him. He grinned at her and she began to cry in his chest. He saw that some of the other toms were coming over to them. "Come on, we better get out of here." and the two walked out of the room.
Three months later Rumpelteazer had become a very good thief. She and Mungojerrie would go on anything but Rumpelteazer's hatred for Macavity still stayed. Mungojerrie didn't understand, Macavity had saved him. Mungojerrie just let it be. One night when both of them were in a house doing a "mission" Rumpelteazer began coughing badly. Mungojerrie looked at her, "You ok?" he asked. Rumpelteazer nodded and she rubbed her forehead. Mungojerrie came over to her, "You don't look so good. Maybe you should wait here and I'll finish." Rumpelteazer nodded. Then Rumpelteazer fainted and landed on the floor with a thud. "Teazer!" yelled Mungojerrie and he ran over to her. He picked her up and headed back to the lair.
Mungojerrie laid Rumpelteazer down on her bed in their room. Mungojerrie put a wet cloth of Rumpelteazers forehead. She had a fever and it was rising fast. Rumpelteazer slowly started to wake up, "W-What happened?" she asked. "You fainted, don't worry. I'll take care of you." Mungojerrie said. Later that night Mungojerrie woke up to the sound of Rumpelteazer coughing. He wished there was something he could do. If you got sick at Macavity's lair you ether died or got better.
For two weeks Mungojerrie took care of Rumpelteazer. She got worse every day; Mungojerrie did every assignment for her and his too. Soon it was just too much. He picked her up and went over to a place call Victoria Grove. Mungojerrie found a house and laid Rumpelteazer down on the doorstep. He wrapped her up in an old sheet. He sat down next to her, "It's going to be alright Teazer. You'll get better here." He said as he stroked her thick hair. Then he got up and started to leave. Rumpelteazer saw him leaving and called out to him. "Mungo! W-Were are you going? Mungojerrie! Please come back!" Mungojerrie looked back at her, he saw that she was crying. This was for the best, he turned and left. "Mungo! Mungojerrie! Please come back! Don't leave me!" Rumpelteazer cried. Tears started pouring out of her eyes; she didn't know what was going on. Suddenly the door opened up and a lady picked up Rumpelteazer and closed the door.
The next day Rumpelteazer woke up by hearing other voices. "Poor thing, she is almost half dead." "I can smell Macavity all over her." "She dose work for him." "But she was taken care of, maybe Macavity took care of her." "No! I know my brother too well. He would never do that." "Maybe another cat took care of her." "We'll have to ask her when she wakes up." Rumpelteazer raised her head. She saw a black and white tom, and gray tabby tom, and a tabby queen with tiger strips and leopard spots.
"Are you ok dear?" asked the queen. "Yes…no!" cried Rumpelteazer as she laid her head back down, "Where am I?" she asked. "You're in Victoria Grove. Who brought you here?" asked the black and white tom asked. "Another tom." She said as she drifted back to sleep. "What was his name?" asked the gray tabby. "Mun…Mun…" Rumpelteazer drifted back to sleep. "What?" asked the gray tabby. "Let's leave her." Said the queen and they all left.
Later that night Rumpelteazer woke up feeling like someone else was in the house. Rumpelteazer didn't dare move as the sound got closer. "Macavitys come to kill me! I know it!" thought Rumpelteazer. Then in the door way Mungojerrie stepped in the room. "Mungojerrie!" cried Rumpelteazer. Mungojerrie came over to her. "Hey Teazer. I heard that Munkustrap, Alonzo, and Jennyanydots came over."
"Yes, they did." Said Rumpelteazer. "Teazer, listen to me. I want you to join the Jellicles, ok?" Mungojerrie said. "You'll come with me, right?" asked Rumpelteazer. Mungojerrie looked at the floor, "No, I can't. I owe Macavity." Rumpelteazer looked at him, "What do you tell him about me?" she asked. "I told him you joined the Jellicles. I'm sure they'll except you, you'll be safe there." Mungojerrie said. For the rest of the night Mungojerrie stayed with Rumpelteazer until he had to go.
In a few months Rumpelteazer was well again and joined the Jellicle tribe. She hadn't seen Mungojerrie since that night. She began to get really worried. One night she slipped out of the junkyard and went back into the alleys. "Mungojerrie! Mungojerrie, where are you?" whispered Rumpelteazer as she walked through the alleys. Suddenly four rats and the tom that tried to get Rumpelteazer the first day she was in Macavity's lair stepped out. "Well, well, well. Look what we have here boys, a Jellicle." The tom said and with that the rats jumped on Rumpelteazer. With one blow from one of the rats Rumpelteazer was out.
Mungojerrie stood in the shadows and watched the whole thing. "I can't fight them all. Now I know why Rumpelteazer hates Macavity. I have to get the Jellicles!" he thought and ran to the junkyard. When he got there everyone stared at him as Munkustrap came over to him. "What do you want stray?" Munkustrap growled. "I need your help!" cried Mungojerrie. "We don't help strays and strays don't help us. We all know that you work for Macavity!" snapped Munkustrap. Mungojerrie had just about had it. "Listen to me!" Mungojerrie yelled, "I am the one who helped a Jellicle here! I brought Rumpelteazer to Victoria Grove so she wouldn't die. Now she's in trouble, are you going to help me or not!" Munkustrap looked at Mungojerrie. "What happened?" growled Munkustrap.
Mungojerrie told every one the whole story and the Jellicles began to make their plan. Back at Macavity's lair Rumpelteazer woke up in a damp, dark, and cold room. "So…you have awaken." Said Macavity coming out of the shadows. Rumpelteazer jumped up, "W-What do you want?" she asked. Macavity came over to her, "You betrayed me. You know what happens to cats who betrayed me?" Macavity came closer to her face, "Death."
Suddenly Mungojerrie attacked Macavity. Munkustrap ran in and grabbed Rumpelteazers arm and pulled her out of the room. "Wait! We can't leave him, he'll die!" cried Rumpelteazer was pulled out of the lair. Macavity threw Mungojerrie on the ground, "What are you doing?" he yelled. "I've had it Macavity! I'm not letting you hurt Rumpelteazer or the Jellicles!" snapped Mungojerrie. Macavity let him up and walked around the room. "You betrayed me Mungojerrie! That means death!" yelled Macavity, "I saved your life!" Mungojerrie looked at him; "You call turning me evil saving my life! Trying to make me follow in your footsteps! I owe you NOTHING!" Macavity looked at him and jumped towered him. Mungojerrie jumped up and started out. Rats and ally cats tried to jump on him but he got out.
Back at the Jellicle junkyard Rumpelteazer was trying to get the others to help Mungojerrie. "Rumpelteazer, he's a stray. We don't help strays." Said Munkustrap. "But this one is different!" yelled Rumpelteazer. "Don't you see Rumpelteazer!" cried Munkustrap, "He used you to get closer to us. He even made up the lie that HE was the one who saved you!" Rumpelteazer looked straight at Munkustrap, "But he was the one! He risked his own life just to take me to Victoria Grove!" Munkustrap looked at Rumpelteazer and then to Alonzo. Alonzo just surged. "Alright." Munkustrap finally said.
Mungojerrie sat down on a rock far from the city. "Father, I need you!" he yelled across the forest. He laid down in a pile of leaves and went to sleep. Later that night Mungojerrie woke up by hearing voices. Mistoffelees and Pouncival were looking for Mungojerrie. "Hey, Mungojerrie!" called Mistoffelees, "I knew a Mungojerrie once. Another tom in my other tribe killed his father and Mungojerrie ran away. A few weeks later the tom who killed his father was killed but the kitten was gone." Mungojerrie stood up and the two other toms saw him. "You mean, I didn't kill him?" asked Mungojerrie. "No. Your…him?" asked Mistoffelees. Mungojerrie nodded and then he collapsed. Pouncival and Mistoffelees ran over to him. Mungojerrie had deep cuts all over his body.
When Mungojerrie woke up he saw Rumpelteazer. "W-Where am I?" he asked. "Your in Victoria Grove. My masters will keep you, you don't have to leave." Said Rumpelteazer. Mungojerrie smiled. "Thanks Teazer." He said. "Hey," said Rumpelteazer curling up next to him, "what are friends for?"
