On a wintering ground near Grand Forks, a number of good bucks show up almost every year. This is a medium sized fella.

As long as the deer don't feel threatened, it's possible to work your way quite close to them. This good buck knew I was there but remained fairly nonchalant.

Even in January, there is some pretty aggressive rubbing done by bucks. This guy winces as a branch pokes him in the eye.

Here is a pretty good nontypical buck that I followed around on several occasions. I later found one of his shed antlers, and the set he grew the next year were amazingly similar but bigger.
