CALIFORNIA JACK

*Click to hear the song 'I've Been Everywhere, Man'*

I met him at the cafe
Just down the street
People say he's crazy
But I think he's sweet.

He talks quite a bit
About the California sun
The dancing girls
And the nights he had fun.

He can't refuse a surfboard
He says he's a pro
But whether that's true
I'll never know.

He goes to church each Sunday
He's a truly holy man
Doesn't drink or smoke at any time
And eats turkey whenever he can.

He's been to different states in the U.S.A.
Yes he's travelled quite a bit
If you're ever in the cafe
With you he'll be sure to sit.

There isn't a shy streak in him
He's the friendliest kind of guy
He tells the funniest stories
But not one of them is a lie.

He jokes about his age alot
He says he's sixteen years
And he can keep you laughing hysterically
'Till you're bursting out in tears.

For one whole hour
He sat with me
We talked and laughed
Over a cup of coffee.

Maybe he's old
And his hair's thin and gray
But to people who think he's crazy
Listen to what I say...

If a man has no friends
Nor a mother or father
If he's a cheerful funloving talker
Who could have the heart to call him a bother?

So if you're ever in the cafe
Just down the street
And California Jack walks in
Offer him a seat.

'Cause California Jack...could sure use a friend.
