IT HAPPENED ONCE YOU KNOW

I sat and watched some children
Flying kites today
A boy and girl were laughing
As their kite began to sway

It landed in a pine tree
Suspended in the air
The boy climbed up the high tree
Getting scratched without a care

Later on that week
I saw them walking by
They both were going fishing
At a little creek nearby

I never thought much of it
But the moon and stars above
Had sent a special message
That told me of their love

That night they sat in moonlight
Gazing at the sky
I don't know how it happened
But I had to start to cry

I knew someday their love
Would end before it started
They'd miss flying kites and fishing
Once they both had parted

I didn't make this story up
It happened once you know
And I'll never forget that miserable day
When I stood and watched you go
