              where the Israelites with Joshua crossed

              - The Canaanite religion was idolatry

              - ALL HAD TO BE KILLED TO CLEANSE THE LAND OF IDOLATROUS WORSHIP
                AND WICKEDNESS
              - Prophecy against one rebuilding Jericho - JOSH 6:26;

        F.  Jericho is taken - JOSH 6:2-5,20
           1.  For 6 days the men of war went around the city once
           2.  On the 7th day, they went around seven times
           3.  7 priests carried 7 trumpets of rams horns before the Ark
           4.  After the 7th trip around, the trumpets were sounded and the 
               people shouted
           5.  The wall fell down flat (the earth swallowed it up)
           6.  Rahab helped two spies and was spared - JOSH 2; HEB 11:30-31
           7.  Acan took of the spoils, he and his children stoned -JOSH 7
           8.  The sun stood still during the battle with the five kings of
               the Amorites - JOSH 10:12-14
       G.  Joshua conquers the land in general
           1.  Each tribe was to complete the conquests in their own tribal area.
               They did not, with the results as noted in - JUDGES 1:19,21
           2.  The Levites did not receive an inheritance in the land because the
               Lord was their inheritance - DEUT 10:9
           3.  The Levites were given 48 cities - JOSH 21:3,41
           4.  Six cities of Refuge (Type of God's mercy & justice) - JOSH 20:2-3
       H.  Joshua died being 110 years old - JOSH 24:29-31; JUD 2:7-10
        
           1.  Israel served the LORD during all the days of Joshua and all the 
               days of the elders that outlived Joshua
       I.  Reign of the Judges - 15 men
           1.  Israel had no central government
           2.  Israel had no king (monarchy), God was their King(theocracy)
           3.  The common bond that held the 12 tribes together was their covenant
               with the LORD
           4.  The Tabernacle was set up at Shiloh
           5.  Israel did not utterly destroy the Canaanites - JUD 1:28; DEUT 7:2-4
           6.  Canaanites became "thorns in their sides" - JUD 2:1-4, 11-17
           7.  When Israel was plagued by their enemies, they cried out unto God 
               and He raised them up a deliverer to save them - JUDGES 3:9,15; 6:6

      A.  Prophet defined - A spokesman for God before the people. 
          They spoke the words God gave them.
          1.  Prophet spoke God's Words - DEUT 18:18; EX 4:15-16
          2.  Moses was a unique prophet - DEUT 34:10; NUM 12:6-8
          3.  Only with the coming of Jesus did there appear that great
              Prophet who was truly like Moses 
               - DEUT 18:15; ACTS 7:37
          4.  If their words did not come to pass, then they were considered
              a false prophet - DEUT 18:22
      B.  Two aspects of the prophets work
          1.  Foretelling  - speaking of future events
          2.  Forthtelling - speaking to edify, exhort & comfort-1COR 14:3
      C.  Mission & message of the prophets
          1.  To try to save the nation from its IDOLATRY & WICKEDNESS
          2.  To warn of God's judgements if they did not repent
          3.  Declare that a remnant would be saved
          4.  Out of this remnant will come a Person who will bring all 
              nations to God
          5.  Prophecy of the coming Messiah
