Vision/Goals-
We are a group of ICHO members, owners and breeders of Gaited Curlies committed to the continued education of the public and ourselves through the study of gaits, conformation, good breeding practices, care and hosemanship specifically applicable to the Gaited Curly. To preserve the health, strength, gait and good temperament of the Gaited Curly and strive for a sound, smooth gaited, well conformed breed for the future.

Gaited Curly Standards and Requirements
ICHO registered Curlies of all colors, type of curl and straights showing a soft intermediate gait/s of any height and body type, although saddle type is the most common. Conformation will be consistant with typical Curly horse standards with regards to gait performed. The gaited Curly will have good bone, soundness and a tractable disposition and forward way of going. The gaited Curly will perform it's gaits naturally barefoot or light shod without any artifical means to enhance gait. The gaits will be performed easily with fluid execution. Gaited Curlies will have endurance and will be well suited for trail. The gaited Curly is a sound, smooth riding using horse first and formost without regard to show ring ideals. Although the gaited Curly is very capable of showing in gait, conformation & trail classes and other types of competiton such as competitive trail riding.
The following is NOT allowed in the training or riding of gaited Curlies- Action devices, padded weighted shoes, chains, soring, tail sets, surgery on the tail such as blocking, pulleys, gait harnesses or any unnatural device.
All ICHO registered Curly horses that perform an intermediate/soft gait are eligible to be included in the Gaited Curly Association. Examples- foxtrot, pasitrot, running walk, paso llano, stepping pace, rack, single foot, amble, Indian shuffle, etc. Horses will be evaluated by a video of the horse performing in gait. A conformation analysis will also be done on all horses through video. Liz Graves or Mary Donald will do the evaluations/judging. You may choose your video judge. If your Curly is live or video inspected by a gait breed registry (MFT, KMT, SSH, etc) they may inspect your Curly for the Gaited Assoc. if they agree to fill out our forms.
