Merry Meet, and thanks for visiting... My name is John. I was born in Chicago, IL and grew up in the suburbs. In 1985, I moved to sunny San Diego, CA working for a national credit reporting company. In 1989, I moved to Las Vegas, NV to help open a franchise office there. Two years later, after the sale of our parent company, I moved back to San Diego, where I was given the opportunity to help develop a new computer system to be used in our production centers. I spent two years developing and installing the new system, and the next three supporting it and developing new functionality.
1996 was a year of great upheaval. First of all, the New Year brought word that a very dear friend and co-worker had developed a particularly devastating form of cancer and was given one year to live. Four months later, I received word that my maternal grandmother had passed away in Chicago. In August, I learned that my mother was very sick and in the hospital. She died in September. My friend died the following January.
Needless to say, I became somewhat reflective about my own life, as well as where it was, and wasn't, heading. I quit my job, moved to Phoenix, where some friends from back home had relocated, and began going to Phoenix College, intent on pursuing a career in Counseling. Back home, I had worked as a volunteer teen counselor in various agencies and had, until events made it impossible, planned on making it my vocation.
Also during this time, I became interested in Wicca. I had been born, baptised, raised, and confirmed in a Lutheran household but, as a teen, I became disenchanted with the whole Judeo-Christian concept of god generally, and the Christian faith in particular. My reasons for doing so are many and, to my mind at least, logical. This is not meant to belittle or condemn the true followers of Christ, for we believe that there is not one path to the Truth. Wicca works for us, Christianity works for others, Islam works for still others, etc.
Also around this time, another event happened which profoundly changed my life. I walked into a small herb shop in downtown Tempe, AZ and met a woman who was to become my mentor and my friend. In August of last year, she elevated me to First Level Reiki Healer. This event changed the way I viewed myself, the Universe and my place in it. I became more aware of the life around me, and how connected all life is. I began studying herbal healing and aromatherapy. In July of 1999, I passed my certification to become a First Level Herbalist.
Through a contact at school, I was introduced to the Soka Gakkai, Int'l, a Buddhist sect out of Japan. I began attending some of their services and learning about their beliefs. I began studying the Tao Te Ching and other Oriental philosophies. Earlier this year, I became an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church. It became clear to me where my path lay. I decided to follow a multi-disciplinary approach to healing.
And that, my friends, is where I'm at today. I welcome any comments, provided they be made in the name of peace and fellowship. But I neither request, nor do I welcome attempts to convert me, condemnations, the damning of my soul, etc. If you feel the need to pray for my soul, feel free to do so as long as you would do me the honor of respecting my beliefs. Praying for me, or anybody else for that matter, to "see the light" is insulting to us. Please remember the Golden Rule. Click on the hummingbird below to e-mail me.
