WELCOME TO COLLINWOOD
The below introduction, as well as several of the storyline articles, were
written by Geoffrey Hamell, the editor of the fanzine The Eagle Hill
Sentinel. All articles written by him will be given appropriate
credit.
In the course of less than five years on the air, Dark Shadows went
through an amazing number of cast, format, and concept changes- becoming,
by the end, almost totally different from Dan Curtis' and Art Wallace's original
creation. What other program in television history can boast that it
ended 125 years before it began, in another universe, and with a completely
different cast of characters? What program would even want to?
Dark Shadows was, and remains to this day, unique.
To make matters even more confusing, there were very few fans who watched
DS all the way through its original run; many didn't (and still don't)
know it existed before Barnabas' debut, and many "outgrew" it or gave up
in bemusement during the murky Leviathan plot. Some of us simply missed
it because of school. For all those who came in late, left early, or
know Collinwood only through the reruns, this is a step-by-step guide to
the DS plots- what happened in them, who it happened to, and what
effect it had on the series as a whole.
