In 1797, Josette duPres came to Collinwood to marry Barnabas Collins. He loved her very much, and they even snuck away from a party thrown in their honor to spend time together. She received a gift of a beautiful music box from her betrothed, as a symbol of his love for her. But she was destined to lose the man she loved.
Before they could be wed, Barnabas fell victim to the curse of the vampire. One night he went to her to offer her eternal life, eternal love. But when she discovered what their wedding was to be, she ran from him. Barnabas chased her, but rather than become one of the undead, she threw herself off Widow's Hill. Josette duPres was found dead on the rocks below. It is possible that she was reincarnated as Maggie Evans almost 200 years later, but it is just as possible that Josette's story ended on that tragic night in 1797.
