A general view of one part
of this extensive garden. It is set on a series of coastal sand dunes,
and just sort of blends into the surrounding landscape of stunted Arbutus
menziesii and Pinus contorta trees and coastal scrub. Because of
the constant coastal winds and poor sandy soil, almost all the trees in
this garden are under 30' tall. Also, there are a great number of
very fine textured plants rather than large leaved plants. These
features combine to create a very different impression from the usual 'subtropical'
garden. |
