Photos of a private garden in Pistol River, Oregon, May 2002.  I would be surprised if this not the largest collection of Australian plants in the Pacific Northwest.  The owner also keeps a huge collection of heaths and heathers.  These few pictures fail to capture the sheer size of this garden and enormous collection of plant species.

A general view of one part of this extensive garden.  It is set on a series of coastal sand dunes, and just sort of blends into the surrounding landscape of stunted Arbutus menziesii and Pinus contorta trees and coastal scrub.  Because of the constant coastal winds and poor sandy soil, almost all the trees in this garden are under 30' tall.  Also, there are a great number of very fine textured plants rather than large leaved plants.  These features combine to create a very different impression from the usual 'subtropical' garden.
A Banksia species in flower.
Billardiera flowers.
One of many Eucalyptus speies in this extensive collection.
A rather large leaved Olearia species.
An Ozothamnus sp.
Flowers of Pittosporum crassifolium from New Zealand.
I was fortunate enough to visit when Telopea speciocissima, the Australian waratah, was in flower.
