A Great Hope is Born.

Serena Tsukino sat quietly studying the painting before her. She leaned over to 
Darien and said, "I don’t get it."
Darien looked at her. "What do mean? You don’t get what the painter was 
expressing when he painted this." 
Serena shook her head and sighed. "I don’t know about you but I am hungry." 
Darien looked stifled, "Serena we just ate lunch an hour ago."
"Yeah I know but I wasn’t really hungry then," Serena said.
"What do you mean? You ate three plates of Spaghetti and meatballs, not to 
mention that you also ate three cups of ice cream Sundays." 
Serena huffed, "Fine, I’ll wait till I get home to eat." They got up and headed 
to the closest exit. "I am so glad that we had this time together Darien. I 
think it is the only time that we’ve had since Rini left."
Darien said nothing, he didn’t want to say anything for the risk of making her 
angry. They walked quietly for a while and then made a turn to the right at the 
end of the hall. "So what have the others been doing?" he asked.
"Oh," she said turning. "Nothing I guess. Raye is vacationing on the island of 
Hokkaido. Mina is visiting her grandfather in the Tohoku district of Japan. Lita 
went with Andrew and Lizzy to visit Andrew’s girlfriend Rita in Africa. Amy on 
the other hand stayed here with her mother." 
Darien retorted, "Oh," he said with disappointment. They walked in silence. As 
they reached the exit, Darien turned to Serena. He leaned down and she looked 
up. He kissed her passionately. Serena looked up and Darien smiled. "I hope you 
liked it."
She separated from him and exited from the museum. She began to run faster and 
faster until she realized that she was reaching her home street. She slowed down 
and walked slowly. Serena felt a tear in her eye. When she got home her eyes 
were red and she had tears flowing from them. She didn’t say hi to anyone but 
went directly to her room. As she closed the door, Luna came out from the closet 
. 
"Serena you’re home early." 
"I didn’t find anything to do." Serena said.
"Are you OK?" Luna asked.
"Yeah, I think… No I’m not OK. In fact I feel terrible."
"Why?" Luna said. She hopped onto Serena’s bed.
Serena sat next to her and began scratching Luna’s ears. "I don’t know I think I 
miss Rini."
"Oh…" Luna sighed. "I know that you miss her. Especially now that you know who 
she really is." 
"I miss my friends." Serena said. Suddenly a low rumble came from outside. 
Lighting flashed and rain began to fall.
Outside of the museum, Darien grabbed a news paper and put it over his head. He 
ran over to a nearby payphone. He put coins in and dialed Amy’s number. It rang 
three times before Amy answered. "Amy! It’s good that I found you. Listen Serena 
left from our date incredibly agitated. Call her and see if she’s OK. I’ll be 
heading to my Apartment so call me back there." 
"OK Darien." Amy said. She hung up the phone and picked it up again. She dialed 
Serena’s phone number. After two rings Miss Tsukino answered. "Hi Miss Tsukino 
could I please talk to Serena?"
"OK," Miss Tsukino put the phone to a side and went up the stairs. She stopped 
in front of Serena’s room. "Serena? Honey, Amy is waiting for you on the phone."
"OK, mom… I’ll be right down." Came the muffled voice inside. The door suddenly 
opened and Serena bumped in to her mother.
"Serena are you OK?"
"Yeah why?" she asked.
"You look sad," her mother said.
"I’m really fine mom." Serena said as she reached the stairs. She went down and 
picked up the phone. "Uh, hello?" 
"Serena…" Amy said.
"Yeah what is it?" 
"I was worried. I felt that there was something wrong. Is there anything wrong." 
Amy said.
Serena thought that only Raye could sense things like that. So maybe Amy was 
hinted on her condition. Darien was the only possibility, "I’m fine Amy. I know 
Darien called you. I will talk to him OK." 
"OK then. I’ll see you tomorrow." Amy hung up.
Serena put the phone on the receiver and picked it up again. She dialed Darien’s 
phone number. It rang and rang but no one answered. She hung up, she ran up to 
her room. She closed the door. "Luna I think something is wrong with Darien." 
"What do you mean?" Luna said. 
"I got a call from Amy and she said that Darien call a while ago but I just 
called him and he not there yet." She yelled.
"Maybe he hasn’t arrived yet." Luna said. 
"To his apartment? It was only a few blocks from the museum." Serena replied. 
Just then Serena heard a faint din-dong. She heard her mother answering. After 
some discussing, Serena heard her mother call her. "Serena! Darien is at the 
front door. He wants to talk to you." 
"Oh," Serena said. She opened the door and ran out. She ran down the stairs. 
Darien stood at the door way. "Darien!" 
"Serena?" he said.
"Hello!" said Kenji Tsukino, Serena’s father. 
Serena grabbed Darien and yelled, "Mom I’m going to Amy’s house."
Serena’s mom responded, "OK dear." Of course she didn’t say anything about 
Darien because Serena’s dad would go nuts. So she kept Kenji distracted.
Outside, Serena grabbed Darien’s arm, "Come on." She dragged him along. They 
headed to the Corrine Park. The rain slowed down to a sprinkle. Suddenly Luna 
jumped on Serena’s shoulder, "Luna?"
"Serena is anything wrong?" Darien asked.
"No, why?" Serena said.
"You left in a hurry." Darien said. 
"I’m so sorry," She said with distaste. 
Darien kept on walking. "Serena tell me the truth. I want you to tell me what is 
wrong." 
In another corner of the city, a strange energy fell out of a mysterious hole. 
As the energy collected, a flash of lighting flew out. A shadow began to form.
"I’m sorry Darien I just can’t go through with this." She screamed.
"What?" he said. Suddenly a massive energy wave shook the park. Darien 
immediately pulled out a rose and transformed in to Tuxedo Mask. He wrapped his 
cape around him and Serena. 
When the energy wave passed, Luna pulled out a communicator watch. "Amy come 
in!" A beep responded, "We just experienced a strange energy wave. Scan it with 
your computer. If necessary transform into Sailor Mercury." 
Just as she finished Darien was frantically shaking Serena, "Serena! Serena! 
Wake up." 
"What happened?" Luna said.
"The wave passed and she just fainted!" He said with a fright.
Suddenly a laugh rang out. "Ha, ha, Oh how little you know." Darien and Luna 
turned. Under the shadow of a tree stood a man. He was almost as tall as Darien. 
He began to walk towards them. He wore a cloak, he had short cut hair. His shoes 
clapped on the cement. 
"Who are you?" Tuxedo Mask said.
"You don’t know who I am? Ha! Funny, I can’t believe it." 
"No!" Tuxedo Mask said. 
The man walked in to the light. He had white hair. He had a white tuxedo suit, 
but on his forehead was the biggest surprise. He a had a black upside down 
crescent moon…
