"I hope you realize after that, tomorrow is going to be truly boring."

Saying that Silverfall is a total disappointment would be rather harsh, but at first glance that was my impression. The overall presentation lets the reader believe the book is in fact an anthology, detailing the background and past stories of the Seven female Chosen of Mystra and how they came to be what they are. In fact, Silverfall is just a regular Forgotten Realms novel with the Seven Sisters as protagonists. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, of course. The story in itself is an excellent idea; it starts out as some sort of murder mystery (but involving the drow...) Dove Falconhand is investigating, and as the plot thickens a new Sister arrives at the call of the former to further help solving the puzzle... and kicking some villain's butt, or at least try to, and if new troubles appear, she summons the next one and so on. Unfortunately, it's only starting from the 3rd chapter (there are only 7 chapters, one for each Chosen, but each is quite long) before something interesting really occurs, during Laeral's 50-60 pages of fame. Maybe it's just me, but Qilué seemed rather poorly portrayed, especially compared to her overall personality in Daughter of the Drow... Other than that, the characters are played out well enough. It could have been a much better book, but I wouldn't call it a disappointment. As soon as Laeral (maybe I'm just saying that because I like her the best out of all 7 sisters, but the two first parts were slow) comes into play the intrigue deepens and it's easier to get drawn in the book. And of course, the Simbul is just too cool; you've just got to love how she treats the poor Red Wizards - "Ye just gotta love her how she is," Elminster chuckled. Well, this isn't one of Elminster's... er, I mean Ed Greenwood's best, it's worth it if you like the Chosen of Mystra and the intrigues of Waterdeep a lot, or if you're a fan of the Forgotten Realms, but if you just remotely like the style, I don't recommend it right away unless you have spare money. And although the ending seemed, shall we say, pretty abrupt, it offers a nice sense of closure, especially with the -very- unexpected appearance of a certain rogue moon elf...
