Ann B. Davis is the very first star we saw on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and since then she has been something of a patron saint to us, as she no doubt is for many. As Alice on "The Brady Bunch" she was the only character with any depth, and thus the only one of interest. She was an enigma. Just who was this "Alice Nelson"? Why was she chained to this beautiful yet vapid family? Was she an indentured servant? A slave? Co-dependant? Or was she not, in fact, the leader of this wacky bunch, ruling with an iron fist (in a rubber glove)? Always the peace-keeper, Alice alone wielded the power to keep this dysfunctional family together. But other questions remain: what about Sam the Butcher? What was their deal? Was he really just her "beard"? The world may never know. What we do know is this: Born a twin (!) on May 5, 1926, Ann first entered the national consciousness as "Schultzy" on "The Bob Cummings Show". After "The Brady Bunch" established her as an icon, she continued to broaden her acting range, appearing in "A Very Brady Christmas", "The Brady Brides", and "The Brady Bunch Movie" (in which, oddly enough, she played not Alice but Schultzy!). A "born-again Christian" since the 70s, she has lived with a minister and his wife for the past few decades. One can only hope she's not their maid!
