Debora Iyall

Few songs are as totally cool as Romeo Void's "Never Say Never"; and few people are as totally cool as Debora Iyall (that's "de-BO-ra ile", but of course you knew that!). She is a diva from the word GO! Perhaps the only person of Native American heritage to front a Top 40 New Wave band, Ms. Iyall is nothing short of an iconoclast, and therefore an icon. Defying media expectations, she broke ground in regards to appearance, gender, sexuality, and of course music. Backed by an incredibly tight band, her plaintive wails were both sensual and riveting. And as she taught us, a girl in trouble is a temporary thing! After the breakup of Romeo Void, a solo album followed, and Debora is currently singing with her new band, Knife In Water, whose CD "Dialog" is now available. She is also a talented visual artist, and is involved with a group called "Ink Clan", a print company which benefits Native Americans.
