If one's biggest claim to fame is a duet with Meat Loaf, can one still be described as a "diva"? In a word, YES. Would such a person qualify as a ForgottenDiva? Definitely! In fact, I can't think of a better definition of ForgottenDiva than: one who has sung with Meat Loaf. So Ellen Foley is a ForgottenDiva, but for so much more than "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". Not just a versatile back-up singer, Foley had a successful solo career in the late '70s and early '80s, riding the first wave of post-punk women in rock (a wave that spawned many a diva!). Her albums "NIGHTOUT" and "Another Breath" were certified hits, and her experimental new-wave/cabaret disc "Spirit of St. Louis" (a collaboration with then-lover and member of the Clash Mick Jones) is a moody, atmospheric classic. Appearing on many other people's albums as well, Ellen can also be seen and heard singing the ever-popular "Black Boys Are Delicious" number in the film version of "Hair". An accomplished actress, she had small roles in "Tootsie", "Cocktail", and "Married to the Mob", and spent two years on the beloved TV sitcom "Night Court". In true ForgottenDiva fashion, she no longer has a recording contract, and seems to be focussing on an acting career. Hopefully she will one day record again. And hopefully she got some sort of percentage deal from Mr. Loaf's "Bat Out of Hell", which has sold over 25 MILLION copies!
ELLEN FOLEY IS A DIVA WHETHER YOU'VE HEARD OF HER OR NOT!!!
