Always a bridesmaid, never a bride...such could be the lament of the fabulous Eve Arden. But though she was rarely the main character in movies, she was almost always the most interesting one. Born in 1907 (or 1912), the former Eunice Quedens started on stage with the famed Ziegfeld Follies, but soon found her niche on screen, appearing in almost 80 films. Usually cast as the heroine's best (and often sexually ambiguous) friend, Miss Arden's sardonic wit and knowing looks were a welcome addition to every film she was in, and earned her an Oscar nomination for her role in "Mildred Pierce" (or as we call it, "Mildred FIERCE"!). She was finally embraced as a leading lady in the 1950s, on television's "Our Miss Brooks", and again graced the small screen later in "The Mothers-In-Law", opposite that other ForgottenDiva, Kaye Ballard. In 1990, Miss Arden left this earthly realm, but her legend lives on, for classiness is eternal, and fabulosity knows no bounds.
