JIM NABORS

Few people have become a household name simply by portraying a character named Gomer Pyle. In fact, only one person has, and that person is of course the much beloved Jim Nabors. But there is so much more to this native of Sylacauga, Alabama. From a humble act consisting of hillbilly monologues and operatic arias (and it IS hard to think of one without the other!), Jim Nabors rose to become the star of a #1 rated television sitcom, a Top 10 variety show, TV specials, stage and screen, and of course the "Razzle Dazzle" ice skating revue, which broke house records at the Reno Hilton. Then there's his phenomenal singing career: he has recorded over 28 albums, five of which went "gold" and one "platinum". There is also the small matter of the Burt Reynolds connection---Nabors appeared in "Cannonball Run", "Stroker Ace", and "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas". In 1991 he was honored with a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame. After a liver transplant in 1994, he has decidedly kept a lower profile, and currently relaxes on his nut farm in Hawaii. Macadamia nuts, that is!
