Helen Reddy

She is strong. She is invincible. She is, of course, Helen Reddy, a Forgotten Diva if e'er there was one. Born in Melbourne, Australia (on October 25, 1941) to a showbiz family, Helen moved to New York to become a star. Eventually that is just what happened. After the usual struggle for success, she had a hit single with "I Don't Know How to Love Him" (from "Jesus Christ Superstar") which paved the way for her most famous anthem, "I Am Woman" (curiously enough, it was co-written with another Forgotten Diva, the great Peter Allen!). Hit after hit followed, including the "crazy lady" trilogy of "Delta Dawn", "Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress)", and the haunting "Angie Baby". In fact, for five years in the 1970s she was on Billboard's Top Pop Singles chart EVERY WEEK! Not content to rest on her laurels, Ms. Reddy went the route of so many Divas before her, attempting to act as well as sing. The result was her film debut, playing a singing/flying nun in the classic "Airport '75". This was followed by roles in "Pete's Dragon" (with fellow Forgotten Diva Shelley Winters!) and of course "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". She also had her own television variety show, and hosted "Midnight Special". Recently our Helen has returned to the small screen, portraying an "international singing star" on "Diagnosis Murder". She has also just released an album titled "The Best Christmas Ever". With Helen Reddy involved, how could it NOT be?
