Matty Mullin's Den
Roberto Luongo
BORN: Montreal, Quebec
AGE: 21 (April 4, 1979)
POSITION: Goalie
HT: 6-3. WT: 198
COMMENTS: Top-notch butterfly goalie with outstanding form and size. Exceptional glove hand and plays angles well. Big-game performer and makes saves look easy. Has been tabbed as the future of goaltending since he was a child. Drafted fourth in 1997. Two years ago, after setting a Quebec League record with seven shutouts, Luongo carried his Val D’or junior team to the Memorial Cup finals with a 14-3 record and 2.18 goals-against average.
LISTING: Hockey's Future
Olli Jokinen
BORN: Kuopio, Finland
AGE: 22 (Dec. 5, 1978)
POSITION: Center-Left wing
HT: 6-3. WT: 218
COMMENTS: Underachieving forward to this point, but he has tremendous upside. Taken third in 1997 by Los Angeles. After being traded from the Kings in the Ziggy Palffy deal, his attitude was called into question. He complained on Long Island about his role and treatment. Big, strong, physical. Decent in the faceoff circle, but never been much of a point-getter. Sees the ice extremely well. Has dominated at the international level.

COMMENT: Big and solid. Defensively steady and consistent. Hits like a MACK truck and likes physical contact. Even fights, a rarity for a Euro. Makes safe, not flashy plays. Calm and poised, and strong defensive presence.
Rob Fried

Height: 6-5. Wt: 225. Age: 18
Born: Grand Forks, North Dakota
Last team: Omaha (USHL)

Comment: Red Line Report calls Olsen the biggest, toughest guy in the draft. A bruising winger who can shoot the puck. Has to work on his consistency. A long-term project.

Round: Eighth (234th)
Position: Center
Height: 6-2. Wt: 205. Age: 18

Comment: Inclined to fight but can skate. Is going to be a project, but the Panthers say he's better than Peter Worrell was at his age.
Note: The Panthers traded their ninth-round pick (286) to Columbus for its ninth-round pick next year.
