8 small pie shells (use two pillsbury
pie crusts for easy preparation.)
1 pound beef round steak, cut into
1/8 inch cubes
1/2 spanish onions diced
1 pound potatoes peeled and diced
3 carrots, peeled and diced
1 large turnip peeled and diced
1/2 tsp garlic powder
salt and pepper to taste
1 large egg and 1 tsp water for basting
1/4 cup ketcup or cold beef gravy (we
used ketchup)
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
Divide the two pie shells into 4 pieces each. Roll into 8
balls and place on lightly
floured counter top and roll out each to a thin circle. Place
mixture onto one half of each pastry and fold over to make a half moon
or turnover.
Crimp and fold over edges.
Place on cookie sheet and very carefully and lightly brush each
with egg and water mixture. (just lightly or the egg will seep underneath
and burn the bottoms)
Bake at 375 for 40 to 50 minutes.
You can make and bake and freeze these and microwave them
for about 3
minutes....make and freeze them and bake them when ready....
( Internet note: We ate them with ketchup... actually these
were really
really good. Very simple and good.)
