Team Rocket is a evil society dedicated to stealing other trainers' pokemon. The head boss is Giovanni, whose favorite pet is sa Persian. The tv series has never shown the face of Giovanni, though.

The series rarely focuses on Giovanni. It focuses on one group of Team Rocket members: Jesse and James, along with Meowth. It is said that Jesse and James are both 17 years old. This group has been shown in every episode except the first one. Below are Team Rocket members info:

Jesse

Jesse is the female member of this group. She has red hair and a loud mouth. She is the one who usually plans out their strategies, although all her plans have failed. She owns two pokemon: Ekans and Lickitung. She received Ekans as a birthday present and it later evolves into Arbok in the Diglett's Episode. The episode of Lickitung was never realeased in America because it focused on a holiday called Girl's Day. On this day, all boys had to follow a girl's commands. People in Japan felt that this would cause a cultural gap between Japan and America.

James

James is the male member of the group. He has blue hair and is usually seen with a red rose. For some reason, he is always picked on by Jesse. His three pokemon are: Koffing, Weepingbell, and Growlithe. He received Koffing as a Christmas present and it later evolved into Weezing in the Diglett's Episode. The episode of Weepingbell was never realeased in America. It evolved into Victreebell in the episode of the Daycare Center, where three other members of Team Rocket ran a center which stole peoples' pokemon. When James was a little boy, he was rich and lived in a big mansion with his parents. His pet pokemon was Growlithe, who he nicknamed Growly. When his parents arranged a marraige for him with a little girl named Jessebell (who looks exactly like Jesse), he ran away. Jessebell had an Oddish when she was young and in the episode of "Holy Matrimony", she has a Vileplume. The reason James ran away was because Jessebell ran something like a gym, where she tried to turn James into a perfect man. After the episode of Holy Matrimony, James tells Growly to continue staying at the mansion, to protect his parents, while he went to rejoin his group. After he ran away as a little boy, he met Jesse in a bike gang. He was named Little James and was the only one in the bike gang, who still needed training wheels. Jesse and James left the bike gang together to join Team Rocket.

Meowth

Meowth is a cat pokemon and was put in the group with Jesse and James. It used to be Giovanni's top cat but it failed too much. This Meowth is the only pokemon besides Gastly who can speak the human language English. It taught itself the language. For some reason, it treats itself as a full time and leader member of this group of Team Rocket. It never fought in a pokemon battle except in the episode of "Who gets to keep Togepy". It usually uses its Scratch attack against Jesse and James when it is mad at them.

Motto

Every time Team Rocket shows up in an episode, they will say their motto, which is very annoying after you hear it for so many times. It goes like this:

Jesse: To protect the world from devastation!
James: To unite all people within our nations!
Jesse: To denounce the evils of truth and love!
James: To extend our reach to the stars above!
Jesse: Jesse!
James: James!
Jesse: Team Rocket, blast off in the speed of light!
James: Surrender now or prepare to fight!
Meowth: Meowth, that's right!

The purpose of this Team Rocket is to capture Ash's Pikachu. However, they always fail and end up getting beaten up. When it gets beaten, it flies off in the air and shouts: "Team Rocket's blasting off again!".
