Real Audio streaming

Real Audio streaming

This is not that hard, and if you've already set up your audio webpage and encoded the song or program you want to stream, most of the work is already done!

The missing link is a .ram file, and that's just what it is, a link between your page on the web, and the actual audio file. The most important thing is to get all the pieces together and connected up properly:

Making a .ram file

Open up your text editor program, such as Notepad or Wordpad, and type in the address of the Real Audio file you want to stream:

Notepad screen example

Save this as a text file (click X or Save As...)

Tips:
  • The address should be all by itself, with no other text or spaces before or after, as shown above.
  • The link you just created can refer to an audio file on the same server, or any server in the world.

Now... right click on the text file you just made, and click rename on the menu, and change the extension from .txt to .ram, then click Yes to save the change. Rename text file to .ram

The icon will change to the same kind of icon your Real Audio player system uses, in this case, Cowon Jet Audio on my system. Webpage link, .ram file, and
Real audio track, ready to work!

Make a link on your webpage, to the .ram file, for your visitors to click on and hear the sound.

Finally, upload everything to your webspace and you should be streaming!
