1- Beautiful Losers -- Leonard Cohen
Why
do I love this book so much? Because it's an amazingly poetic book
about a hopeless love story. Beautifully written, amazingly conceptualized,
and totally made me think about my life in a different way.
2- That Was Then This Is Now -- S. E. Hinton
Sure
it's kid stuff, but have you ever thought about how a single even can change
your life? Ruin a relationship that you always thought was concrete.
Watch it vanish? Everytime I read this book, I cry...because it is
so true.
3- Catch 22 -- Joseph Heller
Okay,
so it's about World War II. There is something much more to this
book. The universal paradox, fucked if you do, fucked if you don't.
It's really worth the read.
4- The Wars -- Timothy Findley
Another
war book, with lots of stuff going on behind the war. The character
in this book is the best kind of hero, which is why i love this book so
much.
5- A Farewell To Arms -- Ernest Hemingway
Okay,
this book, is amazingly written in that journalistic sort of hemingway
style. The story is a love story, that is sad and oh so true to real
life.
6- A Clockwork Orange -- Anthony Burgess
What
can I say about this book? The future is doomed. Read the book
trust me.
7- 1984 -- George Orwell
Oh
my god....BIG BROTHER. This book scares the shit outta me.
8- Timequake -- Kurt Vonnegut
This
book is really weird. I like the way it makes cynical fun of american
society...ina weird sort of almost sci fi way.
9- The Catcher in the Rye -- J.D. Salinger
okay...the
integrity clashing with the ignorance of Holden is enough to keep me reading
this book at least 3 times a year.
10- Oh the Places You'll Go -- Dr. Seuss
When
I read this book I cry, because it is so good, and moticational and inspirational...anyone
going thru tough times should read this book.
I have some honourable mentions as well:
Anne Rice: The Vampire Chronicles, The Mayfair
Witch series
J.K. Rowling: The Harry Potter series (yes I
have read all of them..they are amazing)
James Reffield: The Celestine Prophecy
Sylvia Plath: The Bell Jar
Terry Griggs: The Lusty Man
