Sabres also own the 49th overall selection.
With Regier shipping away Tezikov and Sarich and Tallander staying in Europe another year, the scouting staff might consider restocking the defensive position. Much like pitching in baseball, you can never have enough defenseman in your system.
The scouting department always is able to turn up late-round gems. I have tremendous confidence in them. Here are my three favorite players in this years draft;
A native of Western New York, this defenseman mans the point for Boston College. A good two way player who has good size. Can skate and move the puck efficiently. Has really improved his strength the last year which has made him into a coveted player. Enormous potential. May not be available when the Sabres pick.
Yet another Western New York native who plays center for Minnesota. Like Sabre winger Erik Rassmussen, he was awarded Mr. Hockey in Minnesota as the top high school player. Is tall but not bulky. Possesses great scoring ability but lacks in the defensive end. Can score in a variety of ways. Capable passer. Has been compared to Modano. Good chance of being available when the Sabres select.
Center/Winger for Kootenay in the WHL. Doesnt have great size, but is still considered a physical player. Doesnt seem to have a weakness because he is solid in every facet of the game. Every scouting report I have read indicates this guy is a Buffalo Sabres type of player. Is related to Doug, who happens to write Doug's Critic Corner on this website. Should be available when the Sabres select.
What would you do if you were selecting for the Sabres? Would you trade the pick?
