Stu Barnes was the 4th overall pick in the '89 draft and had much pressure to help the Winnepeg Jets to win. When Winnepeg wasn't content with the play of Stu Barnes, he was traded with a draft choice to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Randy Gilhen. In Florida, Stu got to know Lindy Ruff through his assistant coaching job. From there, Stu was traded with Jason Woolley to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Chris Wells. Now Stu is a Sabre thanks to Matt Barnaby. Stu can play in the clutch, and always semms to shine at exactly the right time. He is a great player to have on the team, and is excellent on the power-play. Stu is also known for slipping through the cracks of the opposing team's defense and somehow creates a scoring opportunity.
Barnes played for New Westminster where he scored and astonishing 101 points as a ROOKIE, and played for Tri-City of the WHL.
