Battle cries were heard from every direction as the woman held the child tightly. A noise from behind cast helpless fear within the woman, she quickly hid the child bringing a finger to her lips she gestured to make no sound then turned toward the oncoming sound.

Dying embers and scattered belongings were the only trace of the tiny village that had once been. Though the sun had risen and fallen the child, Rose, remained hidden awaiting her mothers return. Awakening to warmth she imagined it all a dream until her eyes met those of a wolf laying protectively beside her.
