Chap. 1

“Kinomoto Sakura?” A male voice asked, snapping the young girl out of her reminiscing trance. (Rhymes! ^_~)

“Yes sir?” She replied, tired, but with respect.

~Poor girl, she looks like she hasn’t rested at all, although, with all this, I don’t blame her…~ “Ahem,” he cleared his throat, “your trial begins tomorrow at 8:00 AM, and your lawyer would like to talk to you.”

“Sure, whatever.”

The stately security guard escorted her through the heavy metal door of her confinement, and lead her, cuffed, to the room where her lawyer waited patiently.

“Here you are, I’ll be back for you in an hour.”

“Kay.” Her voice nonchalant, and uncaring.

“Welcome, Sakura, my name is Keo, and I wanted to talk to you about tomorrow’s trial.”

“Sure, whatever,” she said for the second time that day.

“Well,” he started, sensing her tone, “They’ve decided to charge you with 1st degree murder.”

“Kay,” her tone once again uncaring, even though the charges for being guilty was death, by execution.

Keo was a bit shocked, no EXTREMLY startled, by her response. “You…understand what this means,…right?”

“Yeah, I could die. So?” she shrugged her shoulders.

Keo’s chin drooped to the floor with a loud bang. “Well, don’t you even, um, CARE about losing your life?”

“So? Do you know what it’s like to be me? To live everyday knowing that the one you love isn’t there anymore? Do you know?! THIS is death! My soul has already died. If I’m convicted guilty, it’s just quickening my body’s ability to join my soul!…and my soul mate.” She said this last part rather quietly, and Keo wasn’t sure that he heard it, but was too shocked at the moment to dwell on that.

~Wow! Poor girl. It must be very devastating if she wants death THIS bad!~ Out loud he said, “Well, if that’s the way you feel…just answer all the questions truthfully, and, uh, uh…” he faltered, trying to think of the speech he has told a countless number of times to all his clients.

“It’s alright, I know you don’t fully understand, but don’t worry, I’ll do my best tomorrow, because I am NOT guilty! I would NEVER commit murder. Especially not to, him…” she stated, growing loud and almost herself again, then shrinking back in to her depressed, suicidal shell.

“Okay, I’d best be going now,” Keo gathered his things in his briefcase, and, with one last, sorrowful look at Sakura, exited the small dark room.

~Oh man, why? Why?…~ she thought, her thoughts turning once again to that horrible night…

“Go! Run!”

She debated quickly with herself, then ran as fast as her legs could carry her, looking back only once to where Syaoran was still struggling with the black, cat-like creature.

As she approached the house, the door burst open.

“SAKURA!?! Where have you been?!” her crazed older brother Touya shouted.

“No time to explain!” she shot right past him, up the stairs, but was back just as fast, only carrying a backpack.

“Byegottagodon’tworryI’llbeokseeyou!” she said in a hurry, leaving a puzzled Touya with the door still open.

~Huh? Oh well, she’s a big girl, right?~ he thought, then decided quickly, ~NAH! I’d better run after her!~ He grabbed is coat, then ran off in the direction of the park.

Meanwhile, Sakura was busy with the cards and the monster on Syaoran.

“Key of Clow! Power of Magic, power of Light, surrender the wand, the force ignite!
Release!” Her wand appeared as out of nowhere, and she hastily grabbed it.

“Windy! Release and dispel!” Windy shot a blast of wind at the monster, sending I flying off Syaoran and into a tree.

“Grr…” growled the monster. It resembled a big, and I mean BIG, black cat. Yet it was outlined in blue and very hazy looking, although (as experienced by Syaoran) was very solid. (Kinda like that mysterious pokemon on one of those Johto episodes, only more like a cat than a wolf, and bigger.)

It jumped up again and charged at the two again, but this time, they were ready.

“Force, know my plight, release the light! LIGHTNING!”

A bolt of lightning hit the creature, tossing it aside, just inches from Sakura and Syaoran. Syaoran, sword in hand (rhyme not intended for those who pronounce it that way) ran up to the monster and attempted to stab it. Unfortunately, the creature rolled over just in time, and the blade connected with the cement path. Just then Sakura intervened.

“Power card! Lend Syaoran your powers! Power card, release and dispel!”

Syaoran felt his body have renewed strength, having lost most of it in the struggle earlier. He brought his sword back up in a fighting stance, and began to battle the monster fiercely. The being, sensing the new powers of its opponent, growled and transformed into a “human” version of itself, sword in hand. The two battled, parrying and dodging each attack, neither gaining any ground, when the monster faked a left sidekick and, catching his opponent off guard, scissor cutted him, sending him thudding to the ground, the Power card returning to it’s card form.

“SYAORAN!!” screamed Sakura as the beast raised its sword high in the air, “NOOOO!!!!”

She tried to get to him in time, but everything seemed so much slower, her body felt weak. As she was running toward the two, the beast brought its sword down, and into the heart of Sakura’s beloved.

“NNNOOOOOOO!!!! SYAORAN!!!!” but it was too late. The monster smirked and backed off, its task completed. Sakura ran up to her boyfriend, tears in her eyes.

“sakura…don’t cry…” he said in a weak voice, coughing up blood, “you know that I…*cough* can’t stand seeing you cry…” he smiled slightly and painfully wiped her tears.

“No! Don’t leave me!! I can’t live without you!” she wailed.

“take good care of yourself…don’t want you to…join me before you…must…”

“Don’t talk that way, you’ll live! You’ll see! Hang in there! PLEASE!!” but she knew that she was only kidding herself, blood spilling from his deep wound onto her dress.

“aishi…ter..u…” he smiled up at her, before closing his eyes, forever…

“NO!!!” she sobbed, then rose, facing the monster with a renewed strength.

“You…” she picked up the sword the creature had dropped after deploying its fatal blow. “You did this to me!” The creature just sadly nodded, smiled, even as she raised the sword, knowing what would happen, and it was not his demise, but the future. He shook his head sadly as the sword pierced his torso, then disappeared without a trace.

She wept openly, still holding the sword, as she knelt beside her beloved.

“Why? Why…” her thoughts were interrupted by sirens in the distance, coming nearer and nearer.

~What? Hoe?~ The cop cars rounded the corner.

“Kinomoto Sakura! Please drop your weapon! I repeat! Please drop your weapon!” said a voice on a megaphone.

She obeyed, not caring anymore. She allowed herself to be taken, after all, what mattered anymore?

The guard entered once more into her cell.

“Kinomoto? Are you ready?” he asked, eyeing her puffy red eyes, with black circles beneath.

“Yea. Whatever.” The same tone as always was his reply as she plodded over towards the cell door.

Even after all she had said to Keo, she still wondered what this day, and this trial would bring. And what the jury would rule her: Guilty, or nonguilty…
