Chapter 2: Doubts and Preparations
The apartment was now constantly abuzz with activity. Sukura
and Madison sat in a coffee shop on Saturdays, discussing
wedding plans. Sukura helped Syaoran with the where and when
of the wedding and who to invite, and the honeymoon, stuff like
that. Madison simply helped Sukura design the wedding, the dress,
and the tux. On that particular Saturday, Madison was showing
Sukura different styles of clothing, which ranged from Victorian
to casual to futuristic to medieval to colonial to pioneer to
tight
fitting. Finally Sukura decided on one option, a modern sort
of dress that Madison called 'Starchild'. She would show it to
Syaoran
and see what he thought.
Laying aside the styles for the time being, Sukura felt that
she had to tell her latest dream -- and her biggest fear -- to
Madison.
"I'm walking through the woods, and I come to the grove
where Syaoran proposed to me. As you know, there is a small pool
there,
with a tiny waterfall. I just step my foot in, and then suddenly
I'm being tossed around in a sea of rapids, and when I crawl
out, I see
Syaoran standing there. And y'know what he's doing? He is KISSING
MEILIN."
When she was done, Madison stood as though in thought. Finally
she said, "I think that I know what the dream means. I think
it
means that you're in a high range of emotions every day nowadays,
and it's all because you said 'yes' to Syaoran's proposal in
that little grove, but you know that you will find relief soon."
"And what about the last part?"
"I don't think that it means anything, just what your
mind put together,"
"I dunno, Madison. My dreams have a habit of predicting
the future."

Syaoran approved of 'Starchild' for the theme. The wedding
was to be held on May 12th, at 10 a.m. in the grove where the
lovers
had had their first kiss (and where the proposal had been held).
In case it rained, they informed the church. Either way, the
reception was going to be held inside. Syaoran's mother and sisters,
along with his guardian Wei and Meilin, all flew in from China.
Madison became the Maid of Honor, and Rita, Chelsea, and Nikki
were bridesmaids. Meilin had turned down the offer. Eriol was
the
Best Man (he said that to be the Best Man would be a sign that
he was truly forgiven by Syaoran), while Zachary, Tori, and Julian
were groomsmen. (Yes, that's what they're called!) Everything
was just going perfectly. The forecast called for rain in early
afternoon, but the wedding would be over by then. And that wasn't
a problem, anyway. Madison said that it's good luck to have it
rain on your wedding day.
However, every Saturday, someone sat right by Madison and
Sukura. They never noticed her, but she came every week, rain
or
shine. Just for the sole purpose of hearing their conversation.
She always sat within hearing distance. She always ordered
Chinese-style Mocha. And occasionally, she would afterwards go
home, sit on her bed, and sob.
Meilin was that someone.
